Rs 200 Crore Is The New Benchmark for Bollywood Movies

Now a days Big money, bigger canvas, global reach – naturally, Bollywood films mean huge money. The smaller films are raking in Rs 100 crore these days, so it is little wonder that films of top stars are making nothing less than Rs 200 crore. And it does not take more than a week for films of A-listed stars to make that kind of money. Last year, Chennai Express, Dhoom 3 breached the Rs 300 crore mark rather easily. Krish 3 and Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani finished almost near the Rs 300 crore mark. This year, business has been dull in Bollywood and Kick has kick-started the second half of the year with a bang. Trade analysts insist it will enter the Rs 300 crore club effortlessly. Already, Akshay’s Entertainment is lined up for release, which will continue the hit track. Later in the year, Bollywood will see the release of Bang Bang, Happy New Year, PK, all of which are expected to make nothing less than Rs 200 crore. While it’s happy news for all, there is a downside to this. With the range of Bollywood films increasing by the day, the content is taking a backseat complain many. Industry insiders feel most of the big budget films end up being brainless in their effort to make the film irresistible. However, given that there is no dearth of talent in Bollywood, we hope that films in the coming days would have the right mix.
