The Praja Rajyam Party president, Mr K. Chiranjeevi, is all set to play a new role when the Assembly Session begins on Wednesday. He was trained by the former secretary of AP Assembly, Mr Sadashiva Reddy, on the rules, procedures and conventions of the House. The PR has 15 first time MLAs, including including Chiranjeevi.
After the training programme, the party appointed, Ms Sobha Nagireddy, Ganta Srinivasa Rao and Bandaru Satyananda Rao as deputy leaders of the PR Legislature Party. Ms Vanga Geeta has been appointed as the whip of the party. Mr Yalamanchali Ravi and Mr E. Anil are the new secretaries. The treasurer’s post has been given to Mr A. Rambabu. Apart from Mr Sadashiva Reddy, senior leaders like Mr T. Devender Goud, Mr Kotagiri Vidyadhara Rao, Mr Kimidi Kala Venkata Rao, Mr Tammineni Seetaram, Mr Ch. Harirama Jogaiah and many others gave suggestions to the party chief.
Mr Chiranjeevi has decided not to disrupt Assembly proceedings unnecessarily on trivial issues. “The PR will confine itself to constructive criticism and highlight public issues while following the Assembly rules and regulations,” he said after the training camp.
The PR leaders indicated they will have floor-co-ordination with Telangana Rashtra Samiti in the House. The TRS which had almost snapped its ties with the Telugu Desam after the elections reciprocated positively over the floor coordination. According to the PR leaders, floor coordination with other Opposition parties barring the TD is going to protect the PR’s own identity.
The TD cannot play the role of a “big brother” with its numerical strength. However, the PR maintained that the support to other Opposition parties will be issue-based. “No party should expect blanket support from us during the Assembly session. We will extend support after analysing the merit in the issues raised by other parties,” Mr Chiranjeevi said.
