City man is Obama’s ambassador to Belizé

A Hyderabadi is the United States president, Mr Barack Obama’s choice as Ambassador to the Central American nation of Belizé.

Mr Vinai Thummalapally, an Indian-American businessman and a former college friend of the President had raised over $100,000 for his campaign.

Mr Vinai, based in Colorado, is a Telugu and a Hyderabadi.

He did his initial schooling from St Georges Grammar School at Abids and then completed his studies at Hyderabad Public School in Begumpet.

His brother, Mr T. Ajay Reddy, who lives here in Road Number 22, Jubilee Hills, told this correspondent that the entire family was happy. “I just spoke to my brother and we are all very excited,” he said.

Mr Vinai’s parents reside in Jubilee Hills Road No 23, a place where he spent his childhood before he left for the US in 1974 to pursue engineering. His father retired as the director of the Forensic Science Laboratory.

“Vinai is married and has two children,” said his brother. “He runs a CD manufacturing company in the US.”
