Ms Savitha Kumari, former captain of the Andhra women’s cricket team, on Saturday alleged that some friends of the former Andhra Cricket Association general secretary, Mr Chamundeswarnath, tried to abduct her in Thiruvananthapuram on Friday. Ms Savitha, who had alleged that Mr Chamundeswarnath had misbehaved with women cricketers, has also lodged a formal complaint with the police. The Andhra Cricket Association (ACA) suspended him on June 19 after discussing the allegations against him.
Talking to mediapersons here, Ms Savitha said Mr Chamundeswarnath tried to kidnap her when she was in Thiruvananthapuram to attend a national caching camp held from May 15 to June 26. According to her, he had taken the help of his close friend, Mr Malladi Srinivas, for this.
The cricketer alleged that Mr Srinivas telephoned her three to four times to lure her with money. Following this, she got in touch with ACA officials in Visakhapatnam. Later the ACA president, Mr Gokaraju Gangaraju, contacted her and told her not to fall for the lure. Ms Savitha claimed she had solid evidence to prove her allegations against Mr Chamundeswainath and requested the state government to provide her with security since she was facing a death threat.
