Health authorities fear that there could be more A (H1N1) positive patients among the existing lot of six suspected cases who are admitted to the Government Chest Hospital, Erragadda. Out of the six suspected patients admitted, one patient was a co-passenger of the ill-fated British Airways (BA 277) flight of May 31 and this is the reason which is fuelling the fears.
The test results of all the suspected patients are awaited.
To cope up with the ever increasing number of suspected patients, the authorities have identified Vaidya Vidhan Hospitals at Vanasthalipuram and Kondapur to isolate fresh cases.
A massive effort has been launched to contact all the co-passengers who were travelling on the BA flight.
“We have contacted all the relatives of the A (H1N1) positive patients. As precautionary measure, we have advised them to be quarantined their homes. We are giving them the antiviral drugs too. The general public should not panic because we feel the situation is under control,” State Coordinator for influenza A (H1N1) flu virus Dr. K. Subhakar said.
The health officials also maintained that private hospitals should make sure to refer patients, if any, approaching them with flu like symptoms.
“The Chest Hospital is the only facility in Hyderabad equipped to take up isolation and treatment of flu patients. Private hospitals must send international passengers coming to them directly us,” doctors said.
Relatives of international travellers, who are admitted to the Chest Hospital, should make sure that they observe certain precautionary measures and take up quarantine for at least six days.
Washing hands with disinfectants after bouts of sneezing and contacting doctors for anti-viral drugs are a must for persons who have moved closely with the A (H1N1) positive patients.
