People taking fish ‘prasadam’ being offered by Bathini family to cure asthma on the eve of Mrigashirakarte on Monday are vulnerable to contagious diseases, Jana Vignana Vedika (JVV) has warned.
Continuing the tirade it started few years ago against the fish ‘prasadam’ alleging that it has no scientific basis to be claimed as medicine, the JVV appealed to the government on Sunday to take precautions so that infectious diseases like swine flu, anthrax and cholera did not spread during the distribution of ‘prasadam’.
No hygiene
Members of the JVV, addressing a press conference, charged the Bathini family members with not following hygiene and hence people taking the ‘prasadam’ were at the risk of contracting diseases. JVV members P. Srinivas and K. Ramesh Reddy, president and general secretary of the Government Doctors Association respectively, said that the saliva of a patient might stick to the hand of person administering the fish ‘prasadam’. “When the person gives ‘prasadam’ to another patient, it might transmit contagious disease to the latter through the saliva,” they explained.
