The Hangout: Under the tree

Where it’s at: Next to the entrance

Energy, excitement and free flow of words. “Oh, you have put on so much weight”; “Even stars read my tweets”; “You have to watch John and Neil in ‘New York.’ They look hot.” It is another exciting year and the campus at Badruka College in Kachiguda is bustling with activity. Aman, Kiranmayi, Hadiya, Manali, Divyangana, Ankit and Sameer in their vibrant clothes are warming up – attending lectures and meeting their classmates.

What’s to love:

Tree Café

“This has been our only hangout for the past two years. We have no plans to change to another place. But do you guys know what tree is this?” asks Kiranmayi, a final year commerce student leaning cosily against the tree. This tree of deep thought is quite old and is the nerve centre of this group’s favourite pastimes like enjoying food from the near-by canteen. “Have you tried the new Irani samosas? They are good and quite cheap,” sheepishly smiles Aman.

Makeover magic

The students had a pleasant surprise on the first day of the college. “The classrooms were white washed and even the furniture was given a new look. It was refreshing to see the dreary classrooms transform into exciting places of study,” exclaims Hadiya. The gang’s list of favourite topics now has an addition – ‘What students wear to college?’ “The dress code is strictly followed on campus and guys have to only wear formal shirts,” state Ankit and Sameer.

Hide ‘n’ seek

The place is thronged frequently as it is their favourite hideout zone. “The tree can hide us from prying eyes and one can bunk classes easily,” says Manali. Her friend Sameer chips in: “Have you not heard the new notice. Attendance is must and if want to write exams, you better have good attendance.”

What’s not to:

The boys and girls love to have fun but their party is often spoiled by Nadayya, the caretaker. “He doesn’t let us sit here,” the group lets their woes out. There is a little bit of animal life too, thanks to a garbage bin outside the college building. “There are bees, mosquitoes and dust all around,” says Divyangana. It is a special hangout zone and sometimes “students from other classes are found relaxing here and we find it quite odd,” says Kiranmayi.

Alternative:

The auditorium, as that’s the only comfy place available in the college!
