A 25-year-old American national was allegedly raped at her residence in the upmarket area of Banjara Hills in Hyderabad early Wednesday morning.
The girl, who had been staying on the first floor of an independent house in Road No. 11 Banjara Hills for over a year and is employed as a nutritionist with an international NGO, was overpowered by a man who entered her house, and threatened her on gun point to not raise her voice and allegedly raped her repeatedly. Police officials who visited her house said the incident took place between 3 and 4 am and that the number of assailants was still being ascertained.
According to the victim’s house owners who live on the ground floor of the house, the girl came to their house at around 5.15 am and narrated the incident. She then called her friends who took her to Apollo Hospitals. She was given first aid, but since it was a medico-legal nature case, the hospital authorities called the Banjara Hills police and she was taken to a government hospital, Niloufer, for medical examination.
City police commissioner AK Khan reportedly said that dog squads had visited the victim's house. "Two police teams have been formed to track down the rapist - a sketch of the man has been prepared based on the woman's description," Khan reportedly said. Some reports claimed that one person had already been arrested by the police.
