Netflix just got everyone talking about it even more as it has announced
that it’s launching a cheaper mobile subscription plan in India, priced
at INR 199. This is a big drop in its subscription plan rate since the
previous Netflix subscription tiers starts at INR 499 and go up to INR
799.
As per the reports, the announcement was made at the ‘Netflix House’
event where the company also mentioned that its users in India stream
Netflix on mobile more as compared to the other devices. The cheaper
mobile subscription service is available only for Indian users and
Netflix plans on making more investments in the future for Indian users.
This new mobile subscription plan will offer access to all the Netflix
movies and web series in SD mode and restricts the usage of the service
to one mobile or tablet at a time. It would also offer only the standard
definition viewing experience of 480p and users won’t be allowed to
mirror the content on the TV.
There were also other subscription plan options that Netflix was
experimenting, including its weekly subscription plan that the company
has dropped, for now. Moreover, it was just last week when the Netflix
Q2 earnings report highlighted
that the company added 2.7 million subscribers in Q2 which is much
lower than the 5.1 million figure that it had predicted earlier this
year.
Given that Netflix is already facing tough competition from the likes
of Amazon Prime and Hotstar in India, the recent drop in the
subscription rate just might be what it needs to up its growth and
target a wider market in the country.Indian users took to Twitter to share their excitement surrounding the announcement:
