Lok Satta asks KCR to drop plan for fast

Lok Satta Party president Jayaprakash Narayan has urged Telangana Rashtra Samiti president K.Chandrasekhar Rao to drop his plan for fast unto death seeking Telangana State.

Responding to TRS Legislature leader E. Rajender’s letter seeking Lok Satta’s support for the programme, Dr. Narayan in his reply said that Lok Satta firmly believed that such fast has no place in a constitutional democracy. He said TRS was entitled to launch any movement to accomplish the political goals they believed in, as long as it was democratic, peaceful and without disrupting harmony among people.

He also said separate Telangana State would not solve region’s problems and real solution would be in providing equal growth and livelihood opportunities to all and direct empowerment of people with devolution of resources and responsibilities. He said there was no free zone issue at all as the recent Supreme Court verdict was in accordance with Presidential Order of 1975 and undoing the latter would go against public interest.

Sangareddy Staff Reporter adds: Congress MLA T. Jayaprakash Reddy said that the party was geared up to thwart any violent incidents that may arise following the proposed fast.

Speaking to reporters here on Thursday, the Congress MLA said that the TRS president had warned about situation going out of control once the fast commenced which was nothing but doublespeak. “Chandrasekhar Rao who spoke about peaceful agitation is now talking differently,” he said.

Pawan Kalyan not to campaign for PR

The morale of Praja Rajyam’s official candidates for the forthcoming elections to the GHMC suffered a setback as film star and Yuva Rajyam president Pawan Kalyan has reportedly expressed his inability to campaign for them.

The candidates were banking heavily on his campaign as he would attract not only his fans but also the youth and that would boost their chances. They were, however, left high and dry as the film star conveyed that he would not be able to spare time from his shooting schedules for the campaign.

They were also concerned over the delay in finalisation of PR president Chiranjeevi’s campaign schedule. Party leaders, however, maintained that the schedule was being chalked out and Mr. Chiranjeevi was likely to start touring the city from November 11.

He was scheduled to cover all the 55 divisions in which his party candidates are in the fray. Though the party had announced intentions to entrust the responsibilities to senior leaders and MLAs, the plan was reportedly dropped as several of them returned to their constituencies on the pretext of “pressing tasks”.

Meanwhile, Mr. Chiranjeevi who returned from a trip to Chennai, started giving away ‘B’ forms to 55 official nominees. He was closeted with senior leaders for the better part of the day discussing about the rebel trouble in the party and ways to convince them to withdraw their papers and work for the success of the official nominees.

MIM plays Babri card for elections

The Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (MIM) has held former Prime Minister P.V. Narasimha Rao responsible for Babri Masjid demolition and wants all projects named after him to be changed. This is the poll card that the party wants to use for the upcoming civic elections.
The first resolution of the party says it would rename the P.V. Narasimha Rao Expressway flyover after Mahatma Gandhi or Moulana Abdul Kalam Azad if elected to power.
“We have made our stand clear on this issue. The 11.6 km expressway is an important infrastructure project and longest flyover in the country and it cannot be named after a controversial leader,” the MIM president and MP, Mr Asaduddin Owaisi, said.
Since the MIM is also fielding candidates from both Hindu and Muslim communities, civic issues will be highlighted in other municipal wards having voters from both the communities. On paper, the MIM has prepared their agenda with focus on civic issues like roads, incomplete projects, rationalisation of property tax, water supply, improvement in sanitation particularly clearance of garbage, improving sewer storm water drainage network among others.
The MIM has finalised its first list of candidates for 34 wards of which six are non-Muslims contesting from Puranapul, Karwan, Langar Houz, Ghansi Bazar, Borabanda and Rahmathnagar.

Y.S.Jagan in dilemma over campaign

To canvas or not in the upcoming GHMC polls. This is the big question that is weighing down Mr. Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy, the Kadapa MP, at the moment.

According to inner circles, Mr Reddy is yet to decide on the issue and has been discussing it with his mentor Dr K.V.P. Ramachandra Rao.

When newsmen asked Mr Verappa Moily, incharge of Congress affairs in AP, about a formal invite to Mr Reddy to campaign, he evaded a straight answer and said it is the responsibility of every MP to campaign. Similarly, neither the Chief Minister, Mr Rosaiah, nor the PCC chief, Mr D. Srinivas, has so far asked Mr Reddy to campaign.

Mr Reddy’s camp, however, is considering the pros and cons of getting involved in the campaign. If he doesn’t campaign and the Congress wins in the polls, party

leaders will say he is no more interested in taking up his father’s agenda of serving the party. They will also claim that the party can win elections without him. This will damage the prospects of Mr Reddy, the camp felt.

In the worst case, if the Congress fares badly, Mr Reddy will be blamed for not campaigning and for preventing a Praja Rajyam-Congress tie-up.

In case he decides to campaign, credit for the victory will not go to Mr Reddy. Three out of seven Congress MLAs from the city Marri Sasidhara Reddy (Sanatnagar), Dr P. Shanker Rao (Secunderabad Cantonment) and Mr P. Vishnu Vardhana Reddy (Jubilee Hills) have decided not to invite Mr Reddy, it is not clear how other MLAs will react.
