Hattrick hero Shivaraj Kumar’s 100th film Jogayya (Jogaiah), with hat trick director Prem is set to reveal the face of politics of the past and present in Karnataka which had strong links to the underworld. Both Prem and Shivaraj Kumar seem to have a soft spot for the subject of the underworld.

Puneet Rajkumar, Shivaraj Kumar’s younger brother had a recent release, Prithvi, which was about the politics regarding the mining activities in Bellary district of Karnataka. Shivaraj Kumar has earlier done films
on the underworld, like his movie Om (1995), which was directed by Upendra. Prem’s connection to the underworld subject is from his film Kariya in 2002. Finally, the duo came together in Jogi.
This time, in Jogayya, which is produced jointly by Prem and his wife, actress Rakshita, will be looking at the politics of the past that was responsible in giving scope for the underworld. A number of real-life politicians will star in the movie as the film has quite a few politician characters. A lot of underworld dons were brought on screen by director Prem in Kariya, which starred Darshan.
Jogayya, which was supposed to go on floors on Dr. Rajakumar’s birth anniversary on April 24, is now set to roll on July 12, the birthday of superstar Shivaraj Kumar. The film may have four heroines. Prem is in plans to cast Rani Mukherjee
and Tamanna.

P Vasu’s Aaptharakshaka creates new record in
P Vasu who is currently directing Puli Vesham which has R K in the lead role has directed the recently released Kannada film Aaptharakshaka. This film has created box-office records now. A few years back the Kannada film Aptamitra which had Vishnuvardhan in the lead role was a super hit. This super hit Kannada film was remade in Tamil with the title Chandramukhi which had Rajinikanth in the lead role. This film was also a big hit and no words are there to describe its hit.
Now P Vasu has made the Part 2 of the film Aptamitra with the title Aaptharakshaka and released it. This film had late Vishnuvardhan. This film which was released on 19 of this month in Karnataka is creating records in the box office. Vishnuvardhan, Vimala Raman and Sandhya are starring in this film. This film is Vishnuvardhan’s 200th film and is also his last film.
This film is a huge hit in Karnataka and has collected Rs 1.45 Crores within 2 days of its release. Hundreds of die hard fans of Vishnuvardhan took his photo in a procession and lit camphor in front of his photo. Fans of Vishnuvardhan from Mumbai and Chennai had also been to Bangalore to see this film. P Vasu’s fan had also been to Bangalore to see this film.
Reviews of this film were very excellent and all of them appreciated the way P Vasu approached this film. Almost all the media had mentioned that P Vasu has shown the great actor Vishnuvardhan in a different dimension. This film is the best film that was ever released in Kannada. This film has twists, comedies and stunts which has never seen by Kannada audience.
We met Vasu in Pulivesham sets, and asked about the success. Vasu replies, "We can see a film success in three ways. The first thing is that the people should like this film. The second thing is that we should be satisfied and the third thing is producers should be happy and satisfied. This film has won in all these three things. We have spent Rs 35 Lakhs for graphics alone. It is true that this film was really challenging for me. My mind was filled with the only thing that I should make this film a hit because Vishnuvardhan had passed away and it was his last film. Now I am planning to make this film in Tamil."
Did you screen the movie to Rajini sir?
"Yes... The film was screened for Rajini sir. He enjoyed this film. He was moved and emotional in the climax scenes. Right from the beginning when I started this film, he use to inquire how the film has come out. After seeing the success of this film, he appreciated me.”
So... What next?
"I am a person who will not look into the difference between senior or junior actors. I work equally with them. After making two films with the superstars, I am directing Puli Vesham now. Puli Vesham is not an ordinary story. This film has a story like my film Chinna Thambi. This film is about an innocent youth who journeys in village and city. How the city turns this youth’s life? Puli Vesham will narrate this youth to what extent he goes because of his affection and love. The village sequences were shot in Tenkasi. R K who is doing the lead role has intricately acted in this film. This film will escalate him. Two heroines are acting in this film. Srikanth Deva is composing music for this film."

Shruti Hassan to debut in Kannada with Prithvi
After Raam, the latest film of Power-star Puneet Rajkumar to be often in news is Prithvi. Now, the buzz about the film is that the producer is planning to rope in Tamil superstar Kamal Hassan's daughter Shruti Hassan, who has already made her mark in Bollywood with movie Luck. Do you think she is going to star in Kannada film? No! She is reportedly making her playback debut in Kannada in the Puneet Rajkumar-Parvathi Menon starrer Prithvi.
Reports say that Shruti Hassan will be singing one of Manikanth Kadri's compositions for Suri directed Kannada movie Prithvi. Manikanth thinks that that she is the right voice for the film and he has been communicating with her regarding the song, says that co-producer NS Rajkumar.
The movie Prithvi has already completed the shooting of last schedule in Jordan and currently dubbing works are going on for the film. NS Rajkumar is very confident to have Shruti on board over the next couple of days. He says, "We are very keen on her singing for the film, no matter what it costs us."

Srujan Lokesh weds Grishma
Actor Upendra with his wife Priyanka, Shivaraj Kumar, Raghavendra Rajkumar, Ramesh Arvind, actor Ramakrishna family, Devraj Family, Doddana, Srinivasa Murthy with his son Naveen Krishna, Pooja Gandhi with her sibling Radhika Gandhi, Hema Chaudhary graced the occasion. Nana Patekar to dub his voice in Kannada
Bollywood actor Nana Patekar who is busy shooting for the upcoming movie Yaksha has said that he will dub his voice in Kannada. It is a different kind of experience working in Kannada, I understand the language and I am able to follow the language. Former Sub-Inspector Girish Mattennavar, grandson of Late. Hindustani Vocal Gangubhai Hangal is helping me to learn Kannada, said the actor.
Nana Patekar's role is like a Parashurama, a friend, guide and philosopher. Nana plays a tough cop role in the movie Yaksha. He is also seen in one song along with actor Yogesh. This is Nana Patekar's second movie in South Indian language.
Yaksha is produced by actor Yogish's father AT Siddaraju under the banner Swamy Associates. Ramesh R Bhagavath is the director of the movie. And he has also penned story and screenplay for the film. Anoop Seelin has scored the music and Chandrasekhar is the Cameramen. Yogish, Pranitha , Nana Patekar, Atul Kulkarni and Kalabhavan Mani are in the casts of the movie and interestingly Girish Mattennavar is doing a small role in the film.

Rakshita who made her debut as actress in Dr. Rajkumar's home production Vajreshwari combines in the movie Appu. Interestingly, now she is making her debut as a film-maker with Shivaraj Kumar in the lead. She is excited and at the same time nervous to be part of Shivanna's 100th movie. She says that she has grown watching Shivaraj Kumar's films and now producing the movie with Shivanna in the lead has made her to be on Cloud Nine.

Vishnuvardhan gave politics a wide berth
Despite being a hugely popular film star and enjoying considerable fan following in Karnataka, actor Vishnuvardhan did not plunge into politics. He always kept a distance from it and was only seen at election campaigns, that too only when his close friend and actor-turned-politician Ambareesh was in the electoral fray.
In the past, political parties in the State reportedly made “unsuccessful bids” to rope Mr. Vishnuvardhan, into politics by fielding him in either Assembly or Lok Sabha elections. However, the actor was content in the world of cinema.
There have been many success stories of Kannada film stars making it big in politics. They include Ambareesh (three-time MP from Mandya Constituency), Ananth Nag (represented Malleswaram Assembly Constituency in Bangalore and was a minister in the J.H. Patel Cabinet), actor Shashikumar (represented the Lok Sabha from Chitradurga on Janata Dal-United ticket), ‘Pranayaraja’ Srinath (BJP MLC), Jaggesh (represented Turuvekere in the Assembly on Congress ticket and is now a BJP leader).
Like Kannada thespian Dr. Rajkumar, Mr. Vishnuvardhan was not lured into politics.
Several film stars in the Kannada industry tested their fate in politics. Some tasted success while others failed. It was only Ambareesh, popularly known as ‘Mandyada Gandu’, who has a successful track record in it. Dialogue King Saikumar’s dream of entering the Vidhana Soudha remains unfulfilled following his loss in the 2008 Assembly elections from Bagepalli Constituency in Kolar district on the BJP ticket. Even yesteryear actor Jayanthi’s brush with politics was unsuccessful.
The face of Ambareesh’s election campaign was Mr. Vishnuvardhan. He and his actor-wife Bharati had campaigned for Ambareesh, who shared a close bond with him. They entered the silver screen together with the Puttanna Kanagal-directed landmark film “Nagarahavu”.
After the film’s stupendous success, the duo never looked back and emerged as Kannada cinema’s popular actors. They continued their close bonding in their 37 years in Kannada cinema.
In spite of having a friend like Ambareesh, who was a political heavyweight, Mr. Vishnuvardhan was not attracted to politics though he was well aware that he could make it big owing to his popularity.
Another close friend comedian Dwarakeesh’s entry into politics was a disaster when he lost the elections from Hunsur Assembly Constituency in Mysore district under Kannada Nadu party.

Star Vishnuvardhan cremated, thousands mourn
The 60-year-old actor died in Mysore, about 140 km from here, following a heart attack.
Vishnuvardhan is survived by his wife Bharathi and two daughters Chandana and Keerthi.
The Karnataka government had decided on a state funeral and Chief Minister B.S. Yeddyurappa announced a grant of Rs.10 crore and two acres of land to build a memorial to the Kannada superstar.
More than 60,000 fans paid their last respects to the departed actor at the National College grounds where his body was brought. Earlier, the body was kept at his Jayanagar residence.
A big procession was taken from the National College grounds to the Abhiman Studios in Uttarahalli where the state government made elaborate arrangements for the funeral. The procession went through Hanumanthanagar, Banashankari, Padmanabhanagar, Channasandra and then to Uttarahalli.
There were incidents of stone pelting, looting of restaurants and malls, as the procession wended its way. Police vans were attacked and barricades were broken.
Vishnuvardhan's family members, who were part of the procession, had to appeal to the fans to maintain peace and allow them to proceed.

Prema's Shishira, Puneet's Raam to face off
Debut director Manju Swaraj once dreamed of making a special and different contribution to Kannada film industry. Now, the result of his attempt is the movie Shishira, which is set for statewide release this week. The movie is considered as the last release of the year. The meaning of the title is fullmoon or the sixth ruthu (season).The film Shishira has been shot in 47 days. Including hero and heroine, it has only nine characters. Actress Prema is making her comeback to big screen with this movie after long time. Along with Yashas and Meghana, two kids and 7.5 tall Santosh are acting in it. A song of the movie has been picturised in a single shot.

Srinagar Kitty fasts for month for Sanju Weds Geetha
Aramane fame director Nagashekhar is now busy with the shooting of his upcoming movie Sanju Weds Geetha. Savaari fame Srinagar Kitty is playing 'Sanju' while Golden girl Ramya appears as 'Geetha'. Now, Kitty is fasting to get ready to shoot his special get up for the film.
In the first schedule, the movie Sanju Weds Geetha has shot a few songs and sequences in the beautiful locations of Ooty for 20 days and a few sequences have also been shot at Jail sets in Kanteerava Studios, Bangalore for 10 days. But the second schedule was delayed because Kitty is appearing in a special get up, which needed some time.In this part, Kitty appears as disappointed youth's get up which needs lean face with beard, moustache on face and untidy hair on his head. So Kitty was getting ready for the role by punishing his body. In order to bring reality and naturalness in his role, he was avoiding his food for a month. Now, he is ready and getting back to sets on December 25.
According to director Nagashekhar, this is going to be a totally different attempt in Kannada film industry. Since the story of the movie is also new and special, the Gandhinagar experts are also having lots of expectations from it. Cinematographer Sathya Hegde and musician V Harikrishna are also struggling hard to bring special effect for the film with director Nagashekhar.

Finally Puneet's Raam releasing on Christmas day
Puneet Rajkumar fans can celebrate Christmas with Raam. Yes! K Madesh directed Raam is finally all set to hit the screen this week on Christmas day (December 25). Powerstar Puneet Rajkumar and Priyamani can be seen in the lead roles. This is the second release of the year for Puneet whereas for Priyamani, it is a debut film in Sandalwood.
Earlier, it was reported that the movie Raam would be released on December 18. But the producers of movie decided to postpone its release for a week to avoid its clash with Golden star Ganesh's Maleyali Jotheyali.

Kavitha Lankesh lashes out at Master Manjunath
Director Kavitha Lankesh has slammed at Master Manjunath saying that he is still living in the past and he needs to grow up. Earlier, in an interview to the Bangalore Mirror, The Malgudi Days actor had expressed his disappointment over not getting due credit
for his father Shankar Naga. He had said that he could file a lawsuit against Kavitha.
Recently, producer Narasimhan has put all Shankar and Kavitha directed episodes of Malgudi Days together and released it in DVD format. That's why the credit has been given as ‘Directed by Kavitha Lankesh and Shankar Nag' on the DVDs. But Manjunath was very upset over the recognition.
Speaking to the Bangalore Mirror about his claims, Kavitha Lankesh said that, Since Manjunath doesn't hold any rights to RK Narayan’s works, he cannot file a lawsuit against me. In fact, Dev Anand, TS Nagabharana have also done their movies based on RKN. "Can Manjunath sue them?" Kavitha asks.

Vijaya Raghavendra pins hope on Gokula Releasing To Day 26 nov
"I have high hopes from Gokula. It is directed by my cousin Prakash. He has already made big hits like Kushi and Rishi with me. Today, Prakash is one of the most reliable film directors in the Kannada film industry," said Vijaya.
The actor, who was seen in the role of an advocate in IPC Section 300, plays a thief in Gokula. He has teamed up with Pooja Gandhi in it.
"I play a thief in the film and along with my three friends I make cheating and stealing a habit... There are lot of comedy elements featuring me and my three orphan friends. But there is a strong emotional element too that transforms all of us into good human beings."I don't want to reveal the story, but I can assure you that it'll be a big hit with family audience and also with the young people. The film has romance too," said Vijaya.

Why are Bangalore producers crying?
The Kannada film industry is reeling in a year it produced its highest ever number of films. MiD DAY investigates what went wrong, and predicts things may get worse towards the end of the year
The Bangalore film industry is coming to the end of its worst year, and regular producers are blaming real estate businessmen for its plight.
A total of 105 films have been released in 2009 so far, the highest for any year, but only four have recovered their money and four others have earned profits.
Regular producers believe real estate tycoons who ventured into films ruined the industry for everyone.
N M Suresh, who lost Rs 2 crore on his last film Kaaranji, said, "The Kannada film industry has collapsed while other language films are making good money."
Too many films
Real estate money increased the number of productions, and made the industry unviable, he believes.
"With two to three films releasing in a week, the movie buff just had too much coming at him," he said.
Producer K Manju says four of his films flopped this year. "I have lost about Rs 3.5 crore," he told MiD DAY.
Rockline Venkatesh, whose Manasaare is one of the more successful films this year, said, "Real estate tycoons don't know a thing about films, and throw their money around. Cinema halls, artistes, and technicians have become unaffordable because of that."
Producer Ramesh Kashyap can't fathom what is going wrong. He said, "My film Bhagyada Balegara was made for a family audience, but it just didn't work." It had one of the Kannada industry's most saleable heroes, Shivarajkumar.
Kashyap sprinkled consecrated water on cinema halls in the hope that it would help the film run, but nothing helped.
Crime connection
Prem, director of the lavishly produced Raj The Showman, believes real estate money also brought with it the hint of crime.
"They come with a bad reputation, and that kept the audiences away from the halls. They treated the business like a gamble," he said.
By his own estimate, Prem's film has made the maximum profits this year (Rs 25 crore), but industry insiders believe that could be an inflated figure.
S V Babu, a land developer, produced two movies this year, Sangama (with the top-selling star Ganesh in the lead) and Josh (new artistes).
He said, "We are confused about what the audience want. Josh completed 100 days successfully." Sangama flopped.
Babu said land developers weren't coming to the industry now like they did earlier.
'Not our fault'
But E Krishnappa, the real esate tycoon who produced the industry's biggest ever hit Mungaaru Male, believes regular producers are themselves to blame for the present misery.
"Artistes are demanding more, and producers are wasting money on foreign locales and mindless publicity," he told MiD DAY.
He argued that regular producers had no taste, and were throwing their money down the drain.
"They create scripts for actors. It shows that their intention is to make money and not to make good films," he said.
Krishnappa read several scripts this year but did not feel like producing any of them.
The actors don't agree they jacked up their rates because the producers were from the real estate business.
"I get paid the same, whoever the producer. I think many real estate businessmen got into movies inspired by E Krishnappa, and lost their money," said Radhika Pandit, who won the national award for the film Moggina Manasu (2008), produced by E Krishnappa.

Yash to star in Shivaraj Kumar's next movie
Actor Yash is all excited to make his guest appearance in writer-turned-director Agni Sridhar’s Kannada movie Thamassu, which features Hat-trick hero Shivaraj Kumar and Malayalam actress Padmapriya in lead roles. He feels that it is an opportunity to work with his favourite star Shivanna.
Presently, Yash is shooting for Modala Sala in Madikeri and shortly heads to Shakelshpur and Kasargood. Speak to the Bangalore Times, he expressed his excitement over is his guest appearance in Thamassu. “It was a one-day shoot. I was chosen to play a good Muslim.
