After days of overcast skies it rained on Monday. City life was affected. Evening hour commuters were trapped in traffic jams while flooding in several places affected movement of vehicular traffic. Long traffic jams hampered movement on the roads at several points in the city. Traffic ground to a halt on the arterial Sarojini Devi Road at Greenlands flyover in Begumpet as the rush of evening commuters waited to get home. The low-lying Lakdi-ka-pul intersection was flooded leading to traffic snarls and abusive drivers. The normally busy route from Madhapur to Punjagutta via Jubilee Hills Checkpost was even more choked due to the rains. Raghuram Rallepalli, a software professional who commutes from Madhapur to Begumpet everyday was stuck in traffic for over an hour. “Today is even worse than usual, the moment it rains, the infrastructure goes for a toss,” he said.
But there are people who will welcome the rains. According to the Met Office, the rains are the result of a depression in the Bay of Bengal off the coast of West Bengal. This will cause more showers in Northern parts of the State, including Hyderabad.
