70 from state held in Malaysia for fake visas

Nearly 70 people from Andhra Pradesh were arrested by the Malaysian immigration officials at the Kuala Lumpur airport on Thursday. They were detained by the officials for carrying fake visas.
The Malaysian officials had arrested few more illegal immigrants from the state earlier this week at the same airport. According to sources, most of the arrested hail from Karimnagar district. The state government immediately initiated eff-orts for the release of the detained people.
The Chief Minister, Dr Y.S. Rajasekhar Reddy, directed the officials to talk to the officials of the ministry of foreign affairs and secure the release of detained persons.
Mr D. Sridhar Babu, the minister for NRI affairs, said the government is in touch with the Malaysian immigration officials.
“As of now, there is no official communication from Malaysian authorities to the government. We are in touch with the immigration officials. We are also trying to contact the Indian High Commission over there. We are making all the efforts for their early release,” he said.
