The conventional New Year is only for one really exciting day! But the Chinese New Year with the Chinese Zodiac is too cool; they celebrate it for at least ten days with a lot of fun!
And now is the time to enjoy a cool Chinese Zodiac themed party! Kind of like two fun things combined in to one fun party!
Here's how you do it!
Chinese lanterns
These are kind of like out Diwali kandils just smaller and stouter. And of course, all are in that vibrant red with a gold tail. This is because red is the color of luck and prosperity in China. You can either make these at home or buy them at a market.
There are a huge number of varieties already flooding the market this year. And you get sizes as well as chained and individual varieties filled with LED lights. String them all over your house or the main living room and switch on the lights!
Chinese letters
Whatever the occasion, you will get the requisite translation online at a Chinese language site. Just put in the words like "Happy New Year" or "Happy Birthday" at the site and print out the translation in pretty Chinese lettering.
Then print the lettering on napkins and invitation and banners to decorate your house.
Look up your birth sign
Find out about the birth signs of the Chinese Zodiac and then get a short synopsis of each animal printed out in handouts for your guests. If you can find out the specific birth sign of each of your guest and give individual handouts.
Print out their forecasts for the year 2009 and add it to a goody bag for visitors to take home.
Poppers and crackers
the loud sounds of crackers are supposed to ward off any evils spirits from your house in the New Year. You can get poppers and fill them with small Chinese gifts like moon cakes and candy. You can also put in small stuffed animals of the Chinese Zodiac sign. It's great fun too.
Cuisine
Of course, everyone loves Chinese food. But I'm not talking about the typical indo-Chinese fare that we all eat in India! Set out chopsticks and prepare typical food for each astrological sign.
Like the fortune cookies, moon cakes, green tea, spring rolls, and mandarin oranges with honey sesame noodles which are typical for the festive season and almost everyone likes it.
Have fun!
