Students comfortable with revised web counselling

The revised schedule of engineering counselling began on a smooth note on Monday with the increased server capacity helping students to log in and choose their options without any problems.

The reduction in the number of students allowed to log in in the first stage from 50,000 to 25,000 made all the difference as there was less clogging on the site. Students looked visibly happy with the faster response on the pages whenever they saved the information. “It is much faster and we are able to concentrate more on giving options than worrying about the system,” said Vivek, an engineering aspirant.

APSCHE Secretary M.D. Christopher said response from all the centres was positive and students faced no problems with the process. Officials at the helpline centres agreed that the enhanced speed resulted in less number of students visiting them as they preferred to give their options from home or Internet centres.

“Earlier, all of them rushed to the nearest centre as they faced problems due to heavy load on servers,” explained an official. “Now we are able to assist students with patience.”

Candidates at the helpline centre at Jawaharlal Nehru Government Polytechnic, Ramanthapur, expressed happiness at the assistance provided to them. About 1,200 students visited the centre for either giving web options or certificate verification.

Chaganti Subba Rao, Principal of the Polytechnic, said they distributed pamphlets giving clear information on the facilities provided to them and the redressal system if they had any problems.
Doubts cleared

Information on web counselling was given on large screens using LCD projector followed by an interaction session clearing the apprehensions personally.

However, some students at the helpline centre in Masab Tank maintained that the second chance helped them understand the counselling process comfortably given the previous experience of giving options. Mock counselling or some practice sessions would have helped the students a lot, they felt.
