Major Suri’s last rites performed


Family members, friends and relatives bade a tearful adieu to Major J.S. Suri who died fighting militants in Srinagar two days ago, here on Friday.

The final rites of the valiant officer were performed with military honours at the Bansilalpet crematorium. Senior military, revenue and police officials attended the cremation.

The body of the Major was brought to the crematorium in a flower-decked military vehicle from his house in Malkajgiri in a procession as scores of locals and friends followed raising slogans of ‘Suri Amar Rahe’.

Earlier, the Minister for Home, Sabitha Indra Reddy, Malkajgiri MLA A. Rajender and BJP leaders B. Dattatreya and N. Indrasena Reddy paid rich tributes to the officer by placing wreaths on his body. BJP workers burnt an effigy of militants at Anandbagh crossroads.
