Spare a thought this Dhanteras

Spare a thought this Dhanteras

Investing in gold and buying new items for one’s household has taken a backseat this Dhanteras. Instead, prominent Hyderabadis are doing their bit for the flood victims.

India is a traditional country and every festival is eagerly looked forward to. But this year none of us is in a mood to celebrate Diwali or Dhanteras. Thousands of people have been displaced due to the floods. It’s going to be a very dark and bleak Diwali for them. In such a scenario how can we celebrate? We should instead channel our efforts in helping them out. From my constituency, we’ve already sent across four truckloads of food, utensils and clothes. That’s not all, I’m also organising a medical team from my hospital to go to the flood affected areas and help provide relief for the victims.

As a family, we don’t usually spend that much on Diwali. But whatever little we do for Dhanteras has also been avoided this year. Diwali and all its associated festivities will be a low-key affair for us keeping in mind the sad state of the flood victims. Instead we are channeling as much of our resources as possible to the victims. Our organisation has given 25 lakhs to the CM relief fund, but we are also pooling in money from our pockets to get doctors to the spot to provide medicines and set up relief camps in the affected areas.
