How to be the Bollywood bride

ShilpaShetty2.jpg

Shilpa Shetty just tied the knot in a stunning red bridal ensemble designed by Tarun Tahiliani. However, you don’t have to rush to a designer who’ll empty your pockets to look like a super sassy Bollywood diva.

Just run an eye through these pointers:

The glamorous Shilpa

True to her Bollywood image Shilpa Shetty is the quintessential glamorous bride. If you want to steal this tradition-meets-Bollywood-glam look, opt for loads of bling in your jewellery and bridal ensemble.

To keep the tradition aspect alive, opt for kundan jewellery instead of diamonds and a shringar patti (the elaborate head jewellery) instead of a maang tikka.

While your friends and family expect a demure traditional bride, give them a surprise with a sexy cut blouse a la Bollywood glam. We also love the peacock armlet worn by Shilpa which is definitely an interesting add-on.

Ash and Kajol’s traditional charm

No one does the traditional look as well Aishwarya Rai. There is a close resemblance to Shilpa’s bridal ensemble with the only difference being - Rai is dripping with traditional opulence while Shilpa rocks her glam quotient.

Ash stayed true to her South Indian root with a rich kanjeevaram sari, kundan jewellery and shringar patti and topped it off with a shy-bride look.

On the other hand, the feisty Kajol kept it traditional in a green Maharashtrian bridal ensemble complete with the green bangles.

You don’t need inspiration from these celebs to go traditional. Just take suggestions from your Mom, grand mom and all those pesky aunts who are always full of advice.

The bride with a difference

These brides are fashionable and like to make a unique statement. Perhaps that’s why Karishma opted for pink and Ayesha Takia looks ravishing in a neutral hue.

They prove that the colour red need not be a de rigueur. You can experiment with colour and blend tradition with a modern twist.

Notice how Karishma’s jewellery is so contemporary but the mangal-sutra balances this look. Both the divas flaunt simple mang tikkas and elaborate mehendi designs.

So, while your mothering-law insists that you wear her stifling gold choker (that you secretly despise), you can tell her that you’ll flaunt the mangalsutra instead and make it the centrepiece! Now that you have these divas as your inspiration, it's time to get to work!
