Defense Minister alerts forces on cyber threat

Noting that the medium of Internet too can be used to challenge the country's security, Defense Minister AK Antony has asked the Indian forces to stay wary and be prepared to counter cyber attacks.

"Of late, extraordinary and unprecedented cyber crimes have taken place across the globe, exposing gap holes in cyber security systems,” Mr Antony told the Armed Forces Unified Commanders’ Conference on Friday, Apr 16.

“Although Defence Services at all levels have taken steps to counter cyber threat through stringent implementation of cyber security policy, there is still a requirement to ensure that all loopholes are suitably plugged. A few recent cases are reminders of our own vulnerabilities,” he added.

These statements come in the wake of cyber criminals breaking into and stealing data from the Indian defense and diplomatic computer networks.

The minister also called for co-operation national agencies like Computer and Emergency Response Team (CERT), NTRO, Home and IT Ministries so that the country can counter the cyber threat.
