All it takes is one big hit and a fine performance from a non-local hero to get his films into Tollywood. We have seen that happening with Jiiva, Vikram, Vishal and now another name joins the club. He is none other than Sudeep, fondly called as Kicha by the Kannada folks.
After his brilliant performance in the super hit movie ‘Eega’ it is heard that a mad rush has begun for Sudeep’s old films in Karnataka. It is heard that his hit films are being bought at Rs 2 lakhs and an additional Rs 2 lakhs is being spent for the dubbing. Sources say aspiring writers are being roped in and given a package deal of dialogues plus songs for Rs 25k.
The strategy is that the makers are selling these movies for satellite and getting around Rs 4-5 lakhs. That way, for Rs 1 lakh profit they are doing. But their contention is that, it takes just one month effort to do that and earning so much in such a short span is good enough. Well, that’s how the film business works on dubbed movies.
On the flip side, just to see their names in posters and magazines some are coming forward to produce these dubbed movies. Sometimes the films are giving losses also but still they do it for ‘name’ sake.
