Amitabh Bachchan regularly tucks his babies away when it rains. We are talking about the actor actually sending his expensive cars off to higher ground to escape the flooding in Mumbai. In Bengaluru, you don’t have to be a celeb to go batty about your car. When it rains, it pours in the city and what is an otherwise welcome respite from the heat becomes a nightmare for most. At a building complex in Domlur, residents were seen charging out in the middle of the night braving the rain, just to get their precious cars on higher ground.
Shoha D believes that however expensive, her Honda is the safest in the rains. “You need to carry helpline numbers,” she advises.
If you venture out, then you need to know how to tackle your machinery. Web designer Utkarsh S admits that his 7 Series was one of the first to stop in the rains. “I think it is because the exhaust pipes are really low for most luxury cars. You pay so much and then it is ridiculous to see yours stopping first,” he says. He finally stayed with his precious car till help came along! Management Consultant Veena S who owns a BMW was also stuck in traffic for hours recently because of her car. “I have an expensive car so I couldn’t even abandon it on the road,” she says.
Textile designer Roli M says she would rather take her car and driver than go in a rickshaw. “If you have the option, then you shouldn’t be leaving home in the first place in an expensive car!” HR Professional Monica B also concurs with her when she says, “It is a pain to step out. There is only muck everywhere and massive traffic jams. I would rather stay at home when it rains and not damage my car.”
Rich or poor, the car is a winner all the way in namma city, even if it comes to a grinding halt!
