YSR on dos and don’ts for MLAs

Courteous behaviour, restraint in use of unparliamentary language and alertness to every move of the opposition parties trying to embarrass the government, are some of the tips given by Chief Minister Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy and the AP Congress Committee president D. Srinivas.

At the inaugural of the two-day orientation programme for the Congress legislators at Dr. Marri Chenna Reddy HRD Institute here on Saturday, Dr. Reddy repeatedly advised the delegates to take the Assembly session seriously. Stating that there was need for the members to avoid harsh language that could land them in trouble, Dr. Reddy recalled how he had learnt such lessons over the years.
Word of caution

“I also committed mistakes during my stint in the Assembly. But, I have learnt a lesson and mellowed down a lot,” he said. “Every word that you speak reflects the concern of your electorate and also enhances the prestige of the party you represent,” he observed. He advised the legislators to do their homework thoroughly so that they are able to participate effectively in the business of the House.

Mr. Srinivas was forthright in cautioning the party legislators about the strength of the opposition parties. “They (opposition parties) are not weak. They will play hide and seek and hit back at the government by suddenly asking for division during debates. We should be ready to show our strength,” he said.

He expressed displeasure that the ruling party leaders had failed to publicise the good work during the recent elections.

“Voters were under the impression that all the welfare schemes reached them only because of the officials and not through the Congress leaders,” he noted. Had all the leaders highlighted their achievements, the Congress would have won 230 seats as predicted by Dr. Reddy, he added.

Finance Minister K. Rosaiah, his Cabinet colleagues – P. Sabitha Indra Reddy, J. Geeta Reddy, D. Manikya Varaprasad, former Speaker K. R. Suresh Reddy, Deputy Speaker Nadendla Manohar and government Chief Whip Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka were present.
