While Naseeruddin Shah at 60 would be Priyanka Chopra’s oldest husband in Saat Khoon Maaf (earlier entitled Ek Bataa Saath) Neil Nitin Mukesh has just been signed to play her youngest husband.
Though age-wise Neil is a few months older than Priyanka, Neil, it is reliably learnt, initially felt he would look incompatible with her.
Says a source, “Neil didn’t want another situation like Aa Dekhen Zara where everyone commented on how incompatible Bipasha and he looked.
At the same time he’s a big fan of Priyanka’s work. So when he heard that his colleague (let’s not call them friends, because they are not) Ranbir Kapoor was working with Priyanka and prepared himself to match Priyanka’s maturity level (Ranbir has stubbled, lean red-eyed look in Anjaana Anjaani) Neil was game for it.”
Neil’s character will require a heavy physical transformation. He will apparently be unrecognizable on screen.
Says Neil from the location for Yashraj Films’ Lafange Parinday, “When I heard the script I was zapped. This was something I had to do. I play one of Priyanka’s husbands, the youngest of the lot. The fact that I get to be in the same film as actors like Naseeruddin Shah and Mohanlalji was incentive enough. I read even Irrfan Khan is in the film.”
(However sources close to the project deny Irrfan’s casting).
While all the actors playing Priyanka’s husbands (and these include an unknown American actor) have been finalized the seventh actor is yet to be finalized.
Neil starts shooting for Saat Khoon Maaf from April. “I’ve a somewhat crowded date diary this year. I join Abbas-Mustan from June to December for Italian Job.”
Neil who moved to Powai to be near Yashraj Studios to avoid the daily traffic to and from South Mumbai is wondering if he made the right move.
“The traffic on that side of town is just as bad. It’s excruciating to travel even from Powai to Yashraj Studios. On Thursday I had a day off and I invited my mom over to do up my new home the way I wanted it.”
Neil who has been a part of a joint family household all his life, says he has no time to miss his family in Powai. “Because I use that old flat of ours only to sleep….alone!”

It's Amar prem for Jaya Prada!
Jaya Prada, once described by Satyajit Ray as the most beautiful actress in India, is dressed in floppy trousers and shirt, her still-luminous
face bereft of all make-up. It's been a while since the Member of Parliament from Rampur, UP, has been seen in western clothes.
But now that she, along with her friend, philosopher and mentor has been summarily sacked from the Samajwadi Party, the actress can afford to let her guard down.
Even though she has a flight to catch a few hours later, she is in an expansive mood talking about, well, Amar Singh. Amar Singh. Amar Singh.
“I've done nothing wrong except support Amar Singhji. And why has he been expelled? Because he said he wanted to be relieved of party responsibilities because of his ill health. How flimsy a reason is that?”
She is also incredulous that the party had taken objection to a blog that Amar Singh had written and had pulled him up saying that blogs are against party policy because this being the Samajwadi party blogging and computers were for rich people and not for party members.
“Netaji,” she says without an ounce of irony, “has surrounded himself with people who lost in the last elections and are therefore highly insecure. That, is the main bone of contention between both men. Netaji likes to give plum postings to family members and friends and Amar Singhji prefers to take in outsiders and groom them.”, Like herself, we presume.
The 50-something actress who was better known for her rivalry with Sridevi in the nineteen-eighties than her debating skills, was picked from the sets of Mumbai and parachuted into the thick of heartland politics, all thanks to her association with Amar Singh.Jaya Prada who remains married to an already married businessman Shrikant Nahta but lives separately from him, talks with utmost gratitude about her political benefactor.
“He stood by me in my time of crisis when nude photographs of me were being circulated. The party neither reacted nor sacked Azam Khan Saab who was responsible for the whole thing. I distinctly remember, it was May 11, 2009 and Amarji’s haemoglobin level was 6, his potassium levels were 10, he was vomiting blood and was on dialysis and yet he stood by me. Whatever Amarji chooses to do, I am with him.”
“Unlike most politicians who speak only from their mind, Amar Singhji thinks and speaks both from his mind and heart. He unconditionally supports his friends as he did with Amitabh Bachchan too. He is a wise and knowledgeable person who has an intellectual fan following too. His great strength is also that he is a loved and respected person in the film industry and the industry loves it when he attends their functions.”
As to why her namesake and fellow Samajwadi Party and Amar Singh loyalist Jaya Bachchan has been retained in the party, she says, “There are just a few months of her term remaining. But she is completely in sync with whatever Amarji wants to do.”
The plan for now is to form the Lokmanch party, a non-political party which will work with the poorest of the poor, at the grassroots level. “It is a platform that gives us the right to speak on any subject and address any cause. People have been saying that Amar Singh is more of an intellectual than a grassroot politician but we will prove them wrong. We will pick up problems, explore them in a realistic way and present them in parliament.
When we were party members the exposure allowed was limited but now that we are not members of any party we are free to choose our causes. To begin with we support the 16 most backward castes, the farmers who are in crisis and we are also going to work towards getting the women’s reservation bill passed.”
In Delhi, Amar Singh has already made conciliatory noises about Mayawati and Jaya Prada says she would work with her another cause dear to her heart, the division of Uttar Pradesh to create Purvanchal. “I used to toe the line (when in the Samajwadi Party) and say that division was not good, but now that we are not with them I can say that Purvanchal is a cause I support and will work towards.”
But ask her about the possible bifurcation of her home state Andhra Pradesh – she is from Rajahmundry – and she gets evasive. “I am in a very peculiar situation with respect to Telengana. My roots are in Samayakhya Andhra which is about all of Andhra being one but Telengana is also a long pending demand. I don’t wish to hurt the sentiments of those that are asking for Telengana but the issue is Hyderabad.
The Samakhya Andhra wants Hyderabad and so does Telengana. The only solution I see is for Hyderabad to be declared a Union Territory, like Delhi so that it can be with both of them. A committee has been set up yesterday to look into it and I hope they reach the right decision. It is very sad that so many young people lost their lives. This decision should have been taken when Chandrashekhar Rao was doing dharna for Telengana.”
As she looks into the middle distance, there’s a discreet reminder about the flight she has to catch. She divides her time between Mumbai, Delhi and Rampur, she says as we part, and now will have her hands full with Lokmanch. And yes, blogging is allowed for Lokmanch party members.

Kat to romance Hrithik now!
Katrina Kaif is selecting her roles with utmost care. Her projects in 2010 are apparently handpicked to enhance her reputation as an actor.
Among her films is the upcoming Zoya Akthar road movie set in Spain with Farhan Akhtar, Abhay Deol and Hrithik Roshan. Surprising, because with three actors in the project, it would seem theres little space for a female lead. But Zoyas yet untitled film casts Katrina with Hrithik Roshan for the first time ever, and Katrinas part is said to be something she has never played before . Though Katrina is unwilling to reveal some potentially explosive chemistry with Hrithik, Farhan Akhtar, who is himself on the verge of being seen with an exciting new star, speaks guardedly about the subject. Its too early to talk about it, but yes, if Katrina does come into our project, she will be cast opposite Hrithik. He is the only one who gets to romance his love interest. Abhay and I have no love interest in the film. Farhan adds that the bonding among the three costars is the backbone of Zoyas film. Katrina has never worked with a woman director before, and neither has she worked with Hrithik. Shooting for the film starts in April.

Rakhi & I get along: Mika
Singer Mika has begun his new innings as an actor in the Punjabi movie Mitti, which released worldwide recently. Twelve years after making his debut as a singer with Sawan Mein Lag Gayi Aag, Mika’s decision to act in a movie has come as a surprise for many.
He says, “I am not excited; my heart will always be with singing. It is just that the movie has a social message and because of its theme, I decided to do it.’’ Mika has also composed the music for the film. Talking about the story, he says, “It is about four friends from different religions who want to make it big in life. However, in their zeal to achieve success, they are exploited by politicians and religious fundamentalists. Finally, they come into their own.” Mika is confident that the movie will appeal to people of all countries because of its theme.
Was he nervous facing the camera for the first time? “Not at all,” he says, “I feel that performing live in front of 20,000 people is more daunting. Moreover, I’ve already worked in a lot of music videos, so there was no question of having butterflies in my stomach for the movie.” Mika wanted to be a composer when he was in school, but gradually he moved towards singing, inspired as he was by the songs of Kishore and Rafi. Moreover, being the brother of Daler Mehndi, the famous pop singer, also helped. Mika says he’d like to get into classical singing if he gets an opportunity.
Mika has recently lent his voice for the title track of the Vidya Balan-Naseeruddin Shah-Arshad Warsi starrer, Ishqiya, which has been composed by Gulzar and whose music is by Vishal Bhardwaj. “I am really proud to be working with the likes of Gulzar and Vishal Bhardwaj,’’ says an enthusiastic Mika.
However, Mika still says that he and Rakhi Sawant get on like a house on fire. “I don’t know why people still want to talk about something that happened three years ago. I’ve forgotten it,’’ says the singer with a smile, referring to the infamous kissing episode between him and the item babe. Mika even wrote a song, Tune Pappi Kyun Li, about it. Ask him why he loves to be in controversies all the time, and he says, “If you are popular, you become controversial. If you tell the truth, people feel uncomfortable. Things like controversy don’t make any sense to me.’’
Reacting to his recent statement that he went to Kashi to wash off his sins, Mika says, “So what? Every man is a sinner, you people also can do that. There is nothing wrong with it. Why should I hide it?’’ Isn’t there a whiff of controversy in that statement also? Mika won’t agree.

Aamir, Kat turn up for Salman!
Looks like Salman Khan and Aamir Khan’s dosti is going to soon be a part of Bollywood’s legendary tales. The actors aren’t just lavish with their praise and compliments for each other, but their gestures speak a lot about the equation they share. Though Salman couldn’t attend the special screening of his forthcoming film Eros International’s Veer due to prior commitments, buddy Aamir made it a point to watch the movie. Not just Aamir, but his wife Kiran Rao was also spotted at the screening and brother Faisal Khan, too, put in a rare appearance. Salman’s sister Alvira along with hubby Atul Agnihotri were also present. Katrina Kaif, dressed in casual clothes, seemed to be in a mood to relax.
Producer Vijay Galani and director Anil Sharma were excited about having Salman’s near and dear ones watching the movie. Also spotted at the event was Sonakshi Sinha, Shatrughan Sinha’s daughter, who’ll soon be making her debut opposite Salman in a movie.

SRK apes Salman Khan
The audiences were left asking for more when Bollywood megastar Shah Rukh Khan took off his shirt a la Salman Khan while shooting for a special episode of STAR Plus' music reality show "Music Ka Mahamuqabla".
Shah Rukh, who went to the show with filmmaker Karan Johar to promote their forthcoming movie "My Name Is Khan", surprised everyone when he climbed up on a table and danced to the tune of "Deewangi deewangi" from his hit movie "Om Shanti Om".
He then took off his shirt and flaunted his abs, said a source from the sets. On the show all the songs sung by the contestants were from Shah Rukh's movies and the superstar shook a leg with all of them.

SRK, Aamir: Berlin face off!
Shah Rukh Khan will walk the red carpet in Berlin with co-star Kajol and film-maker buddy Karan Johar. His My Name is Khan has been invited to the prestigious Berlin Film Festival.
Aamir Khan’s Peepli Live that has been selected for the Sundance Film Festival is also in the competition section of this festival. Quite naturally, Aamir and his wife Kiran will be present in Berlin, too. So the next big face off between the Bollywood giants will be there. Now, don’t get excited, no fireworks of any great magnitude are expected. SRK’s film is not in the competition whereas Aamir’s film is. But just the fact that all eyes will be on these two Khans, because they will be present at the same foreign venue, is enough to generate quite a bit of media fodder.

Who'll be 2010's superstar?
A fortnight into 2010 and speculations and bets are already being made on who is going to deliver the biggest hit this year. The word is My Name Is Khan will be Shah Rukh’s big comeback. Considering his last big hit, Chak De India was way back in 2007, his fans are keeping their fingers crossed for this one.
Hrithik's last movie Jodhaa Akbar released in 2008. So his fans too are waiting with bated breath to catch him on the silver screen.
Then there is Salman, Ranbir and Abhishek who all saw their movies raking in the moolah at the box office with Wanted, Ajab Prem… and Paa respectively.
Meanwhile Akshay Kumar who in spite of having five releases last year did not manage to give even ONE single hit. Blue, Kambakkht Ishq, 8 x 10 Tasveer, Chandni Chowk...each a bigger flop than the other with the exception of De Dana Dan which did average business.
Now let’s take a look at their releases for this year…
Kites follows the story of J, a salsa dancer, who falls in love with his student. Due to some incidents he gets involved in a mess and he is now a wanted man who’s left to die in the scorching heat of the Mexican desert. Rumour has it that Hrithik is actually in love with Barbara.
Another rumour says he’s got the hots for Monikkangana, his leading lady in upcoming movie Guzaarish. How Suzanne is handling these rumours she only knows but we hope his movie Kites is not affected by his personal fights.
Raavana is a modern day rendition of the mythological book Ramayana. It was on the sets of Mani Ratnam’s Guru that Ash-Abhi got hitched and now the trio is back with Raavana.
Ash-Abhi’s certain soap commercial was a disaster. Hope Raavana’s box-office result doesn’t have a soapy effect the ad did.
The movie is about a Muslim who suffers from autism. This impacts his social interaction abilities which somehow gets him arrested as a suspected terrorist post-9/11.
If Raavana has the magic formula of Ash-Abhi-Mani, My Name is Khan has the hit-recipe of SRK-Kajol-KJo. If 9/11 stories are clichéd, then mythological stories are dated too. So only time will tell which movie will do better.
The kings and nawabs of India have fallen for the British policy of 'Divide and Rule' except for the brave Pindaris, who prefer death to dishonor. And the strongest of the Pindaris is Veer.
The script of Veer has been written by Salman himself. And if by chance this doesn’t work he can always write another on how Ash and Katrina, two of the most beautiful women on earth walked out on him. We bet the latter would be a surefire hit.
It’s a romcom starring Ranbir Kapoor and Priyanka Chopra. The film shows two strangers who fall in love and their journey together.
Ranbir Kapoor is already a youth icon and it's just matter of time before he’s included in the league of superstars. With every movie of his hitting the jackpot, it's almost a given that this one too will be a hit. We just hope he’s not typecasted like his father as a chocolate hero. So Ranbir if you’re reading, when are we going to see some action?
Akshay Kumar plays a smart and suave conman in this film written by Shirish Kunder. Farah Khan choosing Akshay Kumar over SRK has got the media confused. And in this confusion the movie has managed to garner so much publicity that it will last them till the film is released.
Farah dumping SRK, SRK spiting Akshay, Shirish Kunder upset with SRK, Akshay lashing back at SRK. Uff! So has Akshay made the right decision in picking a film that SRK refused or will this add another flop to his kitty?
Whose chances are better and whose movie are you going to spend your money on? Leave us a comment and let us know.

Imran-Deepika Break Ke Baad
Don’t read too much between the lines. But right after Deepika Padukone’s break with Ranbir Kapoor she’s doing a film called Break Be Baad with Imran Khan.
That’s what Kunal Kohli has chosen to call his first film that he’s producing and not directing. Says Kunal, “Me and my director Danish Aslam always wanted to call his film Break Ke Baad because it’s about a couple Imran and Deepika who break up and want to come together. But since we didn’t have the rights to the title we didn’t want to announce it officially.”
Kunal and his team couldn’t locate the legal owners of the title anywhere in Mumbai. “We finally tracked it down to Bangalore to a 60-year old gentleman who deals in electrical goods. He owns a company called Seva Films. He hopes to make films that would change the world. Break Be Baad is one of the titles he had registered. He loved our idea and gladly parted with the title. Just like Break Ke Baad, while writing Hum Tum I wanted my film to be called only that. Milind Soman had that title. I called him for it and finally he sold it to us for 1.5 lakhs! I just had to have Hum Tum as my title, just as it was imperative to get Break Ke Baad. There could no other title. Fortunately, there was no fuss this time.”
A token amount of money exchanged hands. However, getting permission to shoot in Delhi was far more difficult. Says Kunal, “So many recent films have been shot in Delhi. Now the rules for shooting in the Capital have changed. I could write a thesis on what I’ve gone through to get permission to shoot in Delhi.” Kunal’s problems as a producer don’t end there. He has been denied permission to shoot on the Gold Coast. “So we’ll have to shoot in Cape Town and fudge the Gold Coast.” Break Ke Baad is set in Delhi and Australia.
Says Kunal, “This would be my first film as an independent producer. I did Thoda Pyaar Thoda Magic which was a co-production. So many new directors are getting opportunities that we never had when we came in.” Kunal is yet to finalize the cast for his own directorial venture. “But I’m so glad Danish has got a dream pair. Imran and Deepika together sounds good to everyone.”

Salman can't run from Kat, Ash!
Mumbai’s space crunch is beginning to affect even Salman Khan. Yesterday, he found himself trapped between two of his exes at Mehboob Studio -The instinct to run in a situation like this is natural, and Salman is only a man after all even if he insists on wearing a loin cloth in Veer. He succumbed to it instantly, looking wildly about him, muttering, ‘Yeh kya ho raha hai? Pagal ho gaye ho kya?’
Our heart bleeds for Salman. Sandwiched between two beautiful women and not even able to enjoy it. Instead, it was probably his worst nightmare come true.
How did he land himself in such an unenviable spot? This is how the disastrous love(lorn) triangle came together: Aishwarya was shooting for Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Guzaarish at Mehboob Studios in Bandra since morning. Two hours later, Katrina Kaif walked in to shoot for an ad and her vanity van was parked a short distance from Aishwarya’s. An hour later, Salman walked in for interviews of Veer.
To his horror, he found his van parked between Aishwarya and Katrina’s vans. He couldn’t run and couldn’t hide in his van either. Despite muttered protests, his van was not moved as there was no other decent place to give the interviews.
Bechara Salman had to be content with giving most of his interviews outside his van, with Aishwarya and Katrina waltzing in and out of their respective vans every now and then. As it is Salman’s accent appears and disappears at will. We wonder what kind of bytes the media ended up with? Very high pitched ones, we think!

Hrithik gets sewage water to drink
Hrithik Roshan gets this water. As do hundreds of residents in one of the city’s most posh suburbs.Every day, for over a month now, residents of Juhu’s 12th and 13th Road have been waking up to severely contaminated water flowing from their taps.
Supplied by BMC as drinking water, it is the colour of coal tar, with visible suspended particles, and smells of faeces. And it flows from taps meant for supplying clean, potable water.
This has forced Roshan’s wife Sussanne, a mother of two, to use the family’s good offices to bring the BMC to book. “It is a very bad situation. We are getting drinking water which is mixed with sewage water,” she told Mumbai Mirror.
The Roshans who live at Palazzio building on Juhu 12th Road sent Ashok Vasodia, their secretary to BMC K/West Ward office on Wednesday afternoon to lodge a complaint. Their concerns are shared by the other residents who live under the threat of an epidemic breakout.
Vigilant resident Kishore Gupta remarked, “We have a TDS (Total Dissolved Solids) meter at our house and the reading of the BMC water ranges from 135 to 200, while a packaged drinking water has a TDS of around 70. BMC water should normally have around 75. This shows the extent of contamination!”
“We are receiving dark, brackish water, which smells of faeces and can be used only to flush toilets. We are forced to use packaged water,” complained Sunila Lalwani, a resident of Jasmet on 12th Road, opposite Roshan’s Palazzio. She also added that her 11-year-old son Sachin who must have somehow ingested this contaminated water, had to miss his second semester examination after falling ill.
Rekha Teckani, who runs a playgroup for children in the neighbourhood, says, “If we take a bath with this water we start stinking. The question of using this water for drinking and cooking does not even arise!” Teckani buys packaged drinking water for her playgroup kids.
According to Dr Anant Narde, resident of Girnar building on 13th Road, the problem of contaminated water was aggravated after BMC contractors, appointed for re-laying 13th Road, damaged the existing water pipelines in September this year. “We have been receiving this contaminated water for over a month now and live in constant fear of our children taking ill. Officials from the BMC’s Hydraulic Engineering department assured us they will provide us free potable water. But we will have to bring tankers and it is not possible for us to go scouting for tankers in the morning. The neighbourhood has no option but to call for private water tankers.”
Some residents have even threatened that if the problem is not solved in a couple of days they will fill bottles with the contaminated water and present it to councillor Adolf D’Souza and all BMC officials from the K/West Ward as a Christmas gift.
Local councillor Adolf D’Souza blamed the contractors who damaged the pipelines while working on the road. “After receiving complaints from the residents we inspected the site along with officials of the Hydraulic Engineering department and discovered that the existing pipeline has been damaged at various places, allowing sewage water to seep through the water pipeline throughout the stretch. We have already laid new water pipeline on 13th Road and it was to be connected by March next year. But given the gravity of the situation I have asked officials to connect these new pipes to the main water line near Juhu Church and supply clean water from that pipeline.”
A senior official from Hydraulic department voiced, “We are tired of the sewerage department as their contractors have been merrily damaging water pipelines all around Juhu and neighbouring areas and we have to face the ire of locals. We are repairing the lines and laying down a new pipeline to solve the water woes completely but this will take around a week’s time.”
Juhu residents have been facing the problem of contaminated water for nearly 10 years. And laying down new pipelines may not be the answer. As Sunila Lalwani pointed out, “A new pipe line compounded the problem as it cut down the water flow drastically. We were receiving only one hour of water supply everyday. So laying down a new line without rectifying the water pressure problem is foolish.”

Salman's Friend Sajid lands up at Shah Rukh’s party
The presence of music director Sajid at the unveiling of My Name is Khan raised quite a few eyebrows. It is a well known fact that Sajid is a good friend of Salman Khan. In fact for most of Sallu’s films — including the recent Wanted, Main Aur Mrs Khanna and the upcoming film, Veer — the music was composed by Sajid-Wajid. Sajid even acted as Salman’s friend in Wanted and Wajid lends his voice to the songs Salman sings on screen.
So while everybody wondered why Sajid was present at Sallu’s arch rival’s do, fact remains that it was a mistake. “Sajid asked a friend to guide him to the right venue, where Sanjay Dutt and Himesh Reshammiya were launching an anti-piracy campaign. Sajid was planning to head there to lend his support, but instead he ended up at Karan Johar’s event. Embarrassed, the music director made a quick exit, lest the shutterbugs spot him there,” said a source. Ever since Shah Rukh Khan and Salman Khan got into a scuffle last year, friends of both the stars have been on guard.

Hrithik's sick of it!
It has been reported that Hrithik Roshan is tired of the unshaven look he has been sporting for ages. The actor had grown his beard for his upcoming Kites. But even though he is done shooting for the Roshan home production, Hrithik has no respite. He has had to keep the beard for Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Gurzaarish, where he plays the role of a paraplegic. Since he is wheelchair-bound and sickly throughout the film, he has had to keep the beard.
A close friend of the actor told us, “More than Hrithik himself, it’s his son Hrehaan who has been hankering for the beard to be shaved off. Hrehaan does not like his father’s unshaven look and has been trying to force him to do away with it. Unfortunately, Hrithik cannot heed to his son’s request yet, since he is still shooting for Guzaarish.”
Looks like Hrithik has no choice but to wait it out till the completion of the film, but then he knew exactly what he was getting into. Guzaarish is Hrithik’s first all-English film. The actor has been hard at work researching for his off-beat role, and will look to replicate his sizzling chemistry with Aishwarya Rai Bachchan.
