తెలంగాణ రాష్ట్ర ప్రభుత్వం ప్రతిష్టాత్మకంగా నిర్వహించిన ప్రపంచ తెలుగు మహాసభల ముగింపు వేడుకలకు ముఖ్య అతిథిగా హాజరై ప్రసంగించిన రాష్ట్రపతి రామ్ నాథ్ కోవింద్ ఈ సందర్భంగా తెలుగువారిపై ప్రశంసలు గుప్పించారు.తెలుగులో సోదర.. సోదరీమణుల్లారా.. అని తన ఉపన్యాసాన్ని రాష్ట్రపతి ప్రారంభించారు. రాష్ట్రపతిగా ఎన్నికైన తర్వాత తొలిసారిగా తెలంగాణకు వచ్చానని చెప్పారు. దేశ భాషలందు తెలుగు లెస్స అని కోవింద్ పేర్కొన్నారు.  దేశంలో హిందీ తర్వాత అత్యధికంగా మాట్లాడే భాష తెలుగు అని రాష్ట్రపతి రామ్ నాథ్ కోవింద్ అన్నారు.

ప్రపంచంలోనే తెలుగు భాష గొప్పదని..ప్రపంచ తెలుగు మహాసభల ముగింపు వేడుకలకు హాజరైనందుకు సంతోషంగా ఉందని రాష్ట్రపతి అన్నారు. తెలుగు భాష అభ్యున్నతికి సీఎం కేసీఆర్ చేస్తున్న కృషి అభినందనీయమని కొనియాడారు. దేశ - విదేశాల నుంచి ఈ సభలకు హాజరైన వారందరికీ అభినందనలు తెలుపుతున్నట్లు చెప్పారు. దేశంలో హిందీ తర్వాత అత్యధికంగా తెలుగు భాష మాట్లాడుతారని రాష్ట్రపతి తెలిపారు. తెలుగు భాషాభివృద్ధికి గురజాడ అప్పారావు విశేష కృషి చేశారని గుర్తు చేశారు. తన కంటే ముందు ముగ్గురు తెలుగు వారు రాష్ర్టపతులయ్యారు. తెలుగు తెలిసిన రాష్ట్రపతుల్లో సర్వేపల్లి - వివి గిరి - సంజీవరెడ్డి ఉన్నారని చెప్పారు. బహుముఖ ప్రజ్ఞాశాలి - మాజీ ప్రధాని పీవీ నరసింహారావు కూడా తెలుగువారే అని రాష్ట్రపతి పేర్కొన్నారు. స్వాతంత్ర ఉద్యమంలో తెలుగు వారి త్యాగాలు మరువలేనివని కొనియాడారు. అల్లూరి సీతారామరాజు వీరోచిత పోరాటం చేశారని తెలిపారు. హైదరాబాద్ అంటే బిర్యానీ - బ్యాడ్మింటన్ - బాహుబలి అని రాష్ట్రపతి పేర్కొన్నారు.

కాగా తెలంగాణ ప్రభుత్వం ప్రతిష్టాత్మకంగా నిర్వహించిన ప్రపంచ తెలుగు మహాసభల ముగింపు వేడుకలు అంబరాన్ని అంటాయి. తెలంగాణ సంస్కృతి - సంప్రదాయాలు ఉట్టిపడేలా సాంస్కృతిక కార్యక్రమాలు అలరించాయి. ముగింపు వేడుకలు అత్యంత వైభవోపేతంగా కొనసాగాయి. తెలంగాణ విశిష్టతను తెలిపే లఘు చిత్రాన్ని ప్రదర్శించారు. ముగింపు వేడుకలను వీక్షించేందుకు తెలంగాణలోని అన్ని జిల్లాల నుంచి భాషాభిమానులు భారీ స్థాయిలో తరలివచ్చారు.

హైదరాబాదులో ఇప్పుడు ఎంతో ప్రతిష్ఠాత్మకంగా 'ప్రపంచ తెలుగు మహాసభలు' నిర్వహించనుంది తెలంగాణ రాష్ట్ర ప్రభుత్వం. అంతే కాకుండా ఈ కార్యక్రమంతో మరోసారి ప్రపంచానికి కెసిఆర్ అండ్ టీమ్ తమ సత్తాను చాటాలని చూస్తున్నారు. అందుకే హైదరాబాద్ నగరంలో ఎక్కడ చూసినా కూడా ఆ సభల తాలూకు ఏర్పాట్లు ఆల్రెడీ మనల్ని పలకరిస్తున్నాయి.

అంతా బాగానే ఉంది కాని.. ఇప్పుడు కొన్ని హోర్డింగులలో దొర్లుతున్న అచ్చుతప్పులు మాత్రం చాలా కామెడీగా ఉన్నాయి. ముఖ్యంగా జరిగేవి తెలుగు మహా సభలు అయినప్పుడు.. అసలు తెలుగు బాషలోనే అచ్చు తప్పులు ఉంటే.. అది చూడ్డానికి అస్సలు బాగోదు. అక్కడున్న ఓ హోర్డింగ్ చూడండి.. అందుకలో స్వయంగా కెసిఆర్ కు ఇవ్వాల్సిన గౌరవ వాచకం దగ్గరే అదేదో హబీబీ అంటూ పడింది. నిజానికి Hon'ble Chief Minister Of Telangana అనే పదాలను అలాగే తెలుగులో పెట్టకుండా.. గౌరవనీయులైన ముఖ్యమంత్రి అని కూడా అచ్చేయొచ్చు. పోనివ్ కన్వర్ట్ చేస్తే చేశారు.. అక్కడ హానరబుల్ అనే పదానికి అన్ని తిప్పలు పడితే ఎలా?

అందుకే ఇప్పుడు ఈ హోర్డింగులు చూస్తున్న యాంటీ టీఆర్ఎస్ వారందరూ.. తెలుగుకు తెగులొచ్చింది అంటూ కామెంట్ చేస్తున్నారు. ఆ లెక్కన చూస్తుంటే రేపు 15వ తారీఖు నుండి జరిగే సభలను కూడా విమర్శించడానికి చాలామంది కంకణం కొట్టుకుని రెడీగా ఉండేలా ఉన్నారే. మరి చూద్దాం వీటన్నింటినీ కెసిఆర్ ఎలా తిప్పికొడతారో!!

Jagan's health secret: No wine, no non-veg

The way YSR Congress party president Y S Jaganmohan Reddy has been extensively touring all parts of the state round the clock without showing any kind of tiredness in his face and talk has been a real enigma to the political or media observers.

According to health experts, one would require a lot of self-control in food habits, besides maintaining the balance of emotions.

Sources said the secret of Jagan’s health is his tremendous control over the food habits. First of all, Jagan does not booze; and that is the biggest factor for good health and mental alertness.

Secondly, Jagan avoids eating non-vegetarian food and also oily stuff as long as he is touring. May be, he will relish the non-vegetarian stuff once he comes back to Hyderabad for rest, but he controls his food-intake strictly during his tour period. He mostly eats fruits and fruit juices that keep him mentally and physically fit during the tour.

In this aspect, Jagan is following the foot steps of his father Y S Rajasekhara Reddy. He, too, used to be strict vegetarian when he was on tours. Before becoming the Chief Minister, YSR used to have a peg or two with his close friend K V P Ramachandra Rao, but after taking reins of the state, YSR stopped boozing and had a lot of control over food. That was why, he used to be very healthy and mentally strong!

Celebs can’t stop tweeting about DC

As the Indian Premier League gains momentum, micro-blogging site Twitter is helping fellow-feathered fans flock together and this includes some big birds from Bollywood too.

The tweeting’s getting louder and Hyderabadis have found that following celebrity tweets about their team is almost as much fun as watching the games themselves.

“Even though Dia Mirza is now working in the Bollywood industry she still shows her support for DC on Twitter,” enthuses Tanya Agarwal, a student at Villa Marie, “She tweeted ‘I am Dia. I am from Hyderabad. And I am supporting the Deccan Chargers’. It just goes to show that her home team still holds a great deal of importance for her. She could have shown her support to any celebrity’s team but when she tweets about DC, it makes you proud to call her a Hyderabadi.”

Saurabh Bose an employee in a recruitment agency was elated when hottie Sameera Reddy began to use Twitter to encourage and motivate the Chargers, “She tweeted that she was a Reddy at heart and supported DC which is great! When DC wins, her page is filled with replies to fans cheering the team and congratulating DC for their hard work. Plus it is always cute to see an actress talk about cricket.”

For some fans, it’s the sport pundits who make it interesting. Karan Mehra, a student at St Mary’s began following Harsha Bhogle for his tweets about DC, “Harsha is a great commentator who tweets about DC whenever they are playing and gives his opinion about the strategies and techniques used by them. It’s great to read some intellectual tweets about our team.”

And there are those, who despite their loyalties, can’t help be drawn in by the glitz of it all. Priya Sancheti, disarmingly admits that when she’s done with checking on DC tweets, she ambles over to Shah Rukh Khan’s page, “When celebs tweet about the IPL matches, it adds a glamour quotient to the sport. I follow SRK’s Twitter page as it gives me a sneak peek into an IPL team which is fascinating.”

‘Numaish’ still works in spite of the malls

Ye shaam mastani, madhosh kiye jaye …the lilting voice of Kishore Kumar is all over the sprawling ground.

Nibbling popcorn, a young couple enjoys the melody as they stroll along. Yonder an elderly woman has a tough time keeping in sight her grandkids running here and there. Centre to set up new panel on T in 48 hours

The Centre is expected to announce a committee to undertake an exercise to resolve the Telangana issue in the next 48 hours. Before that, the Congress core group is expected to meet on Friday.

The Centre is moving forward after a series of meetings here with the leaders of eight recognised parties in Andhra Pradesh, jointly and individually, over the last three days.

A delegation comprising Andhra Pradesh officials, including some top police officers, are expected to reach New Delhi on Friday and hold meetings with the Union home minister, Mr P. Chidambaram.

They will discuss the ground situation in the state at a time when a section in the state is toying with the idea of whether Hyderabad can be made a Union Territory.

Officials in Hyderabad denied that they had been summoned for such a meeting. Authoritative sources in the ruling UPA on Thursday indicated a formal announcement of a committee would be made “most probably on Saturday”.

The government decided to move forward after the Andhra political leaders agreed to resolve the issue through discussion instead of violent agitation. Significantly, the Telugu Desam (TD) and the Praja Rajya (PR), which have been fighting for an united Andhra Pradesh, are divided on the Telangana issue. This division came to the fore at an eight-party meeting called by Mr Chidambaram on January 5.

While the Congress has already ruled out the option of imposition of President’s Rule in the state, the Centre is treading cautiously after realising that the agitation on smaller states can spread to Maharashtra, West Bengal and Uttar Pradesh.

The Congress core group comprises the party chief, Mrs Sonia Gandhi, the Prime Minister, Dr Manmohan Singh, the finance minister, Mr Pranab Mukherjee, the defence minister, Mr A.K. Antony, Mr Chidambaram, and the Congress president’s political secretary, Mr Ahmed Patel.

Minister gets notice for Rosaiah attack

The Congress high command has served a show cause notice on the IT minister, Mr Komatireddy Venkat Reddy, for criticising the Chief Minister, Mr K. Rosaiah, and bringing disrepute to the party.

The AICC general secretary, Mr Janardhan Dwivedi, issued the notice and gave the minister a week’s time to reply.

Two MPs, one from Telangana region and one from elsewhere in AP, were also to be issued similar notices for violating party discipline and approaching the media, it was learnt late Friday night.

Mr Venkat Reddy had sharply criticised Mr Rosaiah before the media on Thursday and had accused him of acting like the Chief Minister of Andhra region.

Mr Venkat reddy has also angered the high command by refusing to withdraw his resignation unlike other ministers.

He also said that the Chief Minister’s comment on industries moving away from the state because of protests showed his bias against Telangana.

Other ministers too had objected to his remarks against the Chief Minister.

Mr Rosaiah had sent a report on the ‘intolerable’ behaviour of the minister to the high command and demanded that he be thrown out of the cabinet. However, the high command decided to serve a show cause notice for now.

Mr Venkat Reddy refused to comment on the show cause notice. “I dont know anything about it,” he told this correspondent.

Students may lose an academic year

Even as student union leaders and political parties are agitating for a separate Telangana state, forcing the city’s universities to stay shut for over a month, thousands of students studying in these universities and their affiliated colleges stand a risk of losing an academic year. JNTU and OU officials admit that if the current situation continues for another 15 days, nothing can be done to salvage the year. If the exams are not held soon, city professors fear the students will have to forego a whole year as they will be behind schedule.

What’s worse is the fact that agitating students are ready to “forego” this academic year for separate statehood and are calling it the “Telangana sadhana year.”

“We have been requesting the students to conduct their protests and attend classes simultaneously. If classes don’t start in the next couple of days, thousands of students might not get their degrees on time this year,” says Prof Sudarshan Rao, Principal, OU Arts college.

Caught in this crossfire are students of 300 engineering colleges and 98 MBA institutions affiliated to JNTU. The university which should have commenced its second semester by now, hasn’t yet completed its first semester exams. Prof. Lal Kishore, rector of JNTU says the chances of salvaging this academic year are slim. “We have lost 40 working days. This will adversely affect the prospects of final year students looking for jobs.”

Students who had plans to go abroad or appear for competitive examinations are also in panic mode. Y. Kiranmayee, an engineering student of OU College of Technology, says, “From this year onwards, they have permitted third year students to apply for GATE. The exam will have questions from the final year syllabus too. We haven’t even started our second semester classes yet. The political issue that is being debated on is important, but not at the cost of our careers.”

Srinisha Reddy, a final year M.Sc student couldn’t agree more. “After my final year, I plan to take up research. The last semester needs about four months of classes and laboratory work. If we don’t get our degrees on time, our career goals will take a beating.”

B. Ashok, student of VNR College of Engineering says, “To study abroad, we need recommendation letters and graduation certificates. We’ll lose six months if we can’t apply for the current intake.”

Prof Sudharshan Rao, adds, “We don’t mind working overtime to conduct classes in the two weeks of preparatory holidays and summer vacations. But the agitating students should cooperate.”

Telangana bandh: TRS supporters, students get violent on the streets

Normal life was paralysed across Telangana region of Andhra Pradesh as the 48-hour bandh called by TRS and other parties to protest the Centre's decision to hold further consultations on the statehood issue began with violence breaking out at some places.

The shutdown call had an immediate impact as students and other Telangana supporters came on to the streets and resorted to stone pelting on buses and shops in Hyderabad and other Telangana districts.

Violence broke out in Hyderabad, Warangal and other places in the region within hours of the Centre's announcement as police resorted to baton-charge to disperse angry crowds of protesters.

In the state capital, several petrol pumps were shutdown soon after TRS President K Chandrasekhar Rao and other Telangana leaders gave the bandh call. Long queues were witnessed at the few petrol stations that remained open.

Andhra Pradesh State Road Transport Corporation (APSRTC) suspended services in the city and other Telangana districts. A large number of commuters were stranded in Hyderabad as the city buses run by APSRTC remained off the roads.

Incidents of buses and other vehicles being burnt were reported from several places in the city since late last night after the shutdown began.

Centre on Wednesday night said there was a need to hold wide ranging consultations on the Telangana issue with all political parties and groups in the state.

Health books take more rack space at book fair

Have you ever wondered how the coast line of southern India was centuries ago? Or how the mutiny of 1857 was planned and executed? If you are a history buff or a research scholar then head straight to the Asian Educational Services (AES) stall at the 24th Hyderabad Book Fair being held at People’s Plaza, Necklace Road.

The AES publishers reprint travelogues, history and archaeology books written by historians and authors centuries ago. The oldest book reprinted by them is a biography of Fourth Viceroy of India: The Life of Dom John de Castro which was first printed in 1664, stall manager D.Mariappan informed. Inaugurated on Thursday, the annual book fair houses over 200 stalls of different publishing houses and publications. From educational books to the best sellers in English, Telugu and other languages, the fair also has on sale interactive cd-roms on different subjects. Spiritual and health books stalls dominate the fair this year while fiction and children’s books come a close second.

Interestingly, the Hyderabad Book Fair has gone ‘green’ by banning plastic bags. Over 1,50,000 paper bags have been provided by The Tulsi Group of Seeds to help decrease pollution, organisers informed.

The fair which will be on till December 27 was inaugurated by D. Sridhar Babu, Minister for Higher Education and NRI affairs and D.Manikya Vara Prasad Rao, Minister for Secondary Education.
