The Telugu Desam MLA, Mr T.V. Rama Rao denied the allegations levelled by some nursing students of his college against him on Saturday. Mr Rao, who is being investigated by the CID for the alleged rape and murder a nursing student of his college, said it was yet another conspiracy on the part of government to defame and implicate him in the case.
“This is just to protect a Telugu daily and TV channel owned by the ruling party, I am being framed. The newspaper failed to establish evidence of any crime. They are now trying to malign me. The students are like my kids. I don’t behave like that,” he said. The State Human Rights Commission videographed the statements of the five students who alleged rape attempt for 10 hours.
The SHRC chairman Justice Subhashan Reddy on Saturday directed the TD MLA to appear before the Commission on July 10. It directed the director of medical education to provide education to the victims in another nursing college free of cost.
The CID officials who recorded the victims’ statements are also collecting evidence against Mr Rama Rao’s son, Mr Chandrasekhar who had allegedly helped his father to hush up the case. The girls were not sent for medical examination as they said they didn’t suffer injuries and as there was no rape charge. The CID is also planning to administer a lie detector on the girls, the MLA and other staff.
The statements of the girls and complaint to the home minister mentions only outraging modesty (attempt to rape), sexual harassment, threatening to kill, criminal intimidation and illegal confinement. The CID additional superintendent of police, Ms B. Sumati, recorded the statement of the five girls and Mr Sibu Chacko who accompanied them.
A senior CID official said: “No separate case was booked. While filing chargesheet in this case we may drop the rape and murder charges and add the new sections of outraging modesty, threatening to kill and others. A DIG rank officials is working on the case. We can’t say anything about his arrest at this juncture.”
