The state government has allocated a meagre Rs 1,037 crore for the major infrastructure projects being taken up in the city, in the budget presented on Friday.
While the phase-I of the Godavari drinking water project requires Rs 3,300 crore, the government has allocated only Rs 250 crore. Moreover, there is no mention about Multi Modal Transport System in the budget, which requires over Rs 600 crore for extension of MMTS lines up to Medchal.
Similarly, only Rs 75 crore has been allocated for implementation of the sewerage master plan, another Rs 75 crore for strengthening of water supply network in GHMC areas and Rs 37 crore for water supply pipeline laying in slums.
As per the estimates prepared by the water board recently, Rs 10,000 crore is required for laying underground drainage lines in surrounding municipalities, extension of water distribution network to unserved areas in the newly added municipal localities.
Except for HMDA, which got Rs 490 crore for Outer Ring Road, even the GHMC, which is in a financial crisis, did not get any allocations for projects like road widening, storm water drainage network and flyovers. Rs 10 crore was earmarked for Musi beautification and Rs 100 crore for improvement of Hussainsagar lake.
