The Telugu Desam president, Mr N Chandrababu Naidu’s adverse remarks on the Praja Rajyam and Lok Satta created a furore in political circles. Both the parties retaliated and demanded an apology from the former chief minister. Mr Chandrababu Naidu had alleged that Lok Satta worked in tandem with the Congress and spent Rs 59 crore in the last elections.
He demanded the party explain the source of donations. Coming down heavily on the party, Mr Naidu observed that Lok Satta connived with the Congress and that was why the party did not field its candidate from Kadapa and Pulivendula. Lok Satta staged a dharna in front of the NTR Trust building, the headquarters of TD by standing in silence. The TD activists tried to attack the Lok Satta activists. This led to chaos and the police intervened to dispel the agitating groups.
The Lok Satta demanded a pubic apology from Mr Naidu or accept an open debate on the collection of donations. “Let them come out with details about their donations. Our party will then give audited figures of party funds,” the senior TD leader, Mr K. Yerrannaidu, said. Reacting to this, Lok Satta asked the TD leader to go through their website for details on how each rupee was spent. Even the Praja Rajyam responded angrily to Mr Naidu’s remarks that they paved the way for the Congress victory. “It was Mr Naidu, who connived with the Congress to defeat our leader in Tirupati and Palacole,” said the PR leader, Mr C. Ramachandraiah.
Police had a tough time as the TD and the PR raised slogans against each other. Meanwhile, another group of the Lok Satta activists took steps for smooth flow of traffic on the busy Jubilee Hills road. After an hour of high drama, the Lok Satta activists relented and ended their agitation
