It seems like the bubbly Genelia D'Souza is the face that is launching a thousand products during the recession-hit, dark days of the ad world.
Besides five movies with big banners, the Telegu actor has about six big brands under her belt.
Adding on the ads
Genelia dived into the ad world with the Parker Pen commercial with Amitabh Bachhan. The Fair & Lovely ad followed.
Soon, she was picked up to play the vivacious character of Aditi in Jaane Tu Ya Jaane Na. Then there was Cadbury Perk, Spinz, Vatika, Fanta…and, before we knew it she is jumping all over prime time television, and smiling at us from hoardings.
The bubbly bubble is yet to burst!
Why Genelia?
Genelia is a much sought-after young actor with a charming smile, but is that enough to be the face of all these brands?
Sumanto Chattopadhyay - the Executive Creative Director of Ogilvy and Mathers notes, "Perhaps these brands are looking for a youth connect and Genelia is fast-emerging as a youth icon on TV." Hmm…even the role in a movie that she played was about a college-girl!
Sumanto elaborates that every now and then somebody like Genelia comes along who rules the ad-world for a while. Preity Zinta with her adorable, dimpled smile was the face of Perk and Liril. These products are targeting the youth and are all about freshness, so they need a face that embodies these factors.

Girl-next-door v/s the diva
Who is the other popular actor ready to give the 22-year old Genelia some tough competition? The 23-three year old Deepika Padukone of course!
"Not really," says Sumanto. He explains that Deepika has a very poised and graceful feminine appeal that attracts a slightly older audience.
The diva-like Deepika is entirely different from the girl-next-door persona of Genelia, adds Hemant Sharma - Creative Supervisor, Mudra. The young, bubbly and urban image of Genelia comfortably fits into the image of those brands who want to reach out to the masses. Whereas, Deepika's image is more aspirational, and is more suited for slightly up-market brands or beauty products like Lux.
Perhaps that's why Deepika has consistently graced the covers for fashion magazines like Vogue and Harpers Bazaar. Meanwhile, Genelia is fast-becoming the ad world's favourite pin-up girl!
