Rahul wants Payal back!

Indeed, Rahul Mahajan’s metrosexual-but-oh-so-sensitive attitude towards Dimpy Ganguly’s middleclass-bordering-on-bovine simplicity won a lot of hearts but the truth had to surface.

Seems like Rahul and Dimpy’s national marriage is troubled already. Else, why is Rahul pursuing his ex-girlfriend Payal Rohatgi?

Apparently, Rahul has been calling Payal incessantly at odd hours for over a month now. He has also been sending her text messages. A source says, “He (Rahul) is indeed pursuing her (Payal), texting her that he’d like to meet her. It seems he can’t forget her.”

That Rahul had even asked Payal to be a part of Swayamvar cannot be forgotten. At the time however Payal refused Rahul’s offer and told the media, “Please! He is a married man and I am not in touch with him. We used to be friends but that was a long time ago. He also offered to pay me Rs 1 crore to be a part of it. You see, he wanted a friend around. But I was used enough in Bigg Boss 2 to know better.”

Convoluted... yes. But Payal is not willing to take Rahul’s advances lightly anymore. She is not amused, the source adds, “Payal is not liking it at all. She is quite surprised by the number of messages she has received from him in the past few days.

She has categorically told Rahul to stop connecting with her. But he is adamant.” But then again, when it comes to ‘connecting’ with others (from this world or not), Rahul excels in it.

When contacted, Payal says, “What Rahul is doing by calling and sending me messages is very irritating. I am done with him. I don’t live in the past.” It is common knowledge that Payal was very close to Rahul until his roving eye chanced upon Monica Bedi in Bigg Boss 2. Did Payal take time to recover from that? “Not at all,” says Payal, “The most difficult period was when I was housed in Bigg Boss 2. I realised his true colours there.”

Rahul had called Payal “a time-pass” in the show; she has reason to be miffed. As for the house Rahul had gifted her, she had to vacate it after Bigg Boss 2. “Let’s not go there,” sighs Payal.

Despite repeated attempts, Rahul Mahajan remained unavailable for comment.

Horror movies have always fascinated the audience since decades and though there are many who simply shiver at the thought of it, the excitement pulls them to the theaters. Right now, one movie is making enough news across the world and it has its links with India.

We are talking about the film ‘Hotel Hollywood’ which is hitting the screens on July 23rd. The buzz is that the makers have come up with a contest. They say that one has to crack the code and win US $20000. Apparently, the viewer is expected to get a numeric sequence spotting it in the film.

This is directed by Param Gill and a haunting background score has been provided by the talented music maker Shyam Vai. The buzz making rounds about the story is that it is a true tale about an Indian wedding family that checks into a hotel in LA but disappear mysteriously. It is also rumored that the US Government had apparently covered up the entire issue.

Sexiest South Indian Women of All Time

This isn't a list where C-grade stars who only appear in "those kind of" movies are going to make an appearance. We mean to put together women who have achieved success and fame with hard work; but nevertheless have the 'oomph' factor working for them. Here's our top 10 sexy women of true South Indian origin; after all when even the Ajanta and Ellora caves are paying tribute to the Dravidian women, why wouldn't we!

10. Deepika PadukoneA model-turned-actress but one who was lucky enough to make her Bollywood debut in a major blockbuster release (Om Shanti Om opposite Shah Rukh Khan) -- only her second film! A Bangalore native of Mangalorean origin, Deepika is the daughter of badminton champion Prakash Padukone. Her dusky skin tone and sleek eyes have already garnered her a massive fan-following -- and at just 24, she's only just begun her film career.

9. Nayanthara
We don't know the story behind how Diana Mariam Kurian (her real name) became Nayantara but really, does it matter? One of the hottest actresses at the moment (a native of Tiruvalla, Kerala), Nayantara grew up all over India thanks to her father being an Indian Air Force official. She's starred in smash hits such as Chandramukhi opposite Rajnikanth and Billa (Tamil) and her sultry looks only add to her success.

8. Padma Lakshmi
Probably the most famous South Indian woman in the Western world right now (yes, more people know her by name than Aishwarya Rai). Padma Parvati Lakshmi was born in Chennai, Tamil Nadu but grew up in the US. She's the host of hit reality show Top Chef and was well-know for her marriage to controversial novelist Salman Rushdie (they later divorced in 2007). Laksmi began her career as a top model before making her name in world of food and television.

7. Rekha
This is one bombshell of the South who has created waves with her magnetic sex appeal since the 1970s. Doe eyed, dusky with an innate sense of style and the drive to keep re-inventing her looks, Rekha oozes sex appeal that seems to get only stronger each passing year. Born in Chennai to Gemini Ganeshan (Tamil actor) and Pushpavalli (Telugu actress), this is one hot woman who was born with fame marked on her pretty little forehead.

6. Sheetal Mallar
Born in Mumbai to a Mangalorian family, Sheetal Mallar is probably one of the best known super models of India. Tall, sharp featured and with a mane of gorgeous curls you can't take your eyes off, this dusky goddess of the ramp is a well known brand ambassador for names like Maybelline, Motorola, and her most recent TV ad campaign was for Wild Stone deodrant.

See who made our top 5 after the break.

5. RambhaA native of Vijaywada, Andhra Pradesh, Rambha's fans call her Thudayazhaki' ("gorgeous thighs") -- for good reason. One of the most popular glamour girls in South cinema, Rambha has appeared in films from all four southern states. She's even acted in Hindi, Bengali and even Bhojpuri films. Now 33, and engaged to a Canada-based Sr Lankan business man, Rambha continues act and produce films proving she's not just on-screen 'eye candy'.

4. Aishwarya Rai

Love her or hate her, she is definitely a name when it comes to being known as a sexy woman. Aishwarya Rai has become a household name not just in India but globally too. Born in Mangalore, Karnataka, her rise to fame was inevitable; one look with her sleepy green eyes and people are hooked. From being known as a model, to a Miss India Runner Up to being Miss World, she has now earned a place in the Indian film industry and 'sexy' is just another feather to her cap.

3. Hema Malini
Ethereal is the word that comes to mind when talking about Hema Malini and she definitely deserves to be in this list among her younger peers. This 'Dream Girl' of yesteryears had all the oomph factor when dressed in a saree, shooting the screen with melting looks that only she is capable of. A Tamilian by birth, Hema Malini married fellow actor Dharmendra and is now mother to Esha Deol, a woman who seems to have been blessed with all the right genes.

2. Shilpa Shetty
Do we really need to describe her? She's Manglorean and very hot -- thus, making the list. Beyond that, chances are you already know enough about this woman.

1. Sridevi
Notice how we used a older image for Hema Malini but a current photo for Sridevi? An eternal beauty and one of India's most successful actresses -- Sridevi is our pick for the top spot.

Though she's known nationwide from her hindi films, Sridevi began her career down South. Born Shree Amma Yanger in Meenampatti village, Tamil Nadu, Sridevi captured men's hearts throughout the 70s and 80s. She's starred alongside every major actor of her era and yes, there will always be that "wet saree" song from Mr. India.

So that's our Top 10 but what about yours? Agree with our list?

Charan goes the Dhoni way!

For the first time ever, two of India’s hottest dream boats share a drink in a TV commercial, making it eminently droolworthy.

After sharing screen space with the gorgeous Deepika Padukone for a cola commercial, T-town superstar Ram Charan Tej will now swig a cola with Team India skipper Mahendra Singh Dhoni in a brand new ad campaign. The three-day cola commercial was shot in Mumbai and directed by Telugu filmmaker Trivikram Srinivas. It is learnt that the teen heartthrobs shot separately first, and then came together to create some very fizzy moments in the 60 second television commercial (TVC).

“Both of them had a good time together and seemed to have a lot of common interests. Cherry (Ram Charan’s pet name) used to be a cricketing buff once and had stopped watching the game until Mahi’s captaincy revived his interest in the same,” says a close friend of the actor.
MSD on the other hand isn’t a typical movie buff and had little knowledge about Tollywood films. However, it seems that Dhoni was briefed about Charan and he enquired about regional films.

“We had a wonderful time working together. It was great interacting with MSD,” says Charan, who was reluctant to reveal more. The light-hearted TVC has smart one-liners and that’s why Srinivas who has a flair for comedy was roped in to direct it. “He was our best choice,” adds the young actor, who’s now keen to work with Srinivas in a feature film, “provided everything falls in place.”

SRK wants to flirt with Abhi

Superstars can be quite blunt with their remarks on the other actors in the
Karan Johar asking Shah Rukh Khan to be a part of Dostana 2

At Star Plus' Jashn 2010 - Dhamaka Naye Saal Ka when director and friend Karan Johar offered Shah Rukh Khan to be a part of Dostana Part 2, King Khan immediately turned down the offer and said that after sporting a six-pack he would not like to spoil his image of a macho man.

He added though that, on any given day, he would love to flirt with Abhishek Bachhan and John Abraham, but still not at the cost of his "straight" image. We wonder what wife Aishwarya Rai Bachhan has to say to this who was present right there!!

‘Avatar’ to hit the screens on Dec. 18

A decade and more after ‘Titanic’, hit director James Cameron turns the spotlight of fame on himself again. ‘Avatar’, the quadri-lingual film in English, Hindi, Telugu and Tamil is all set to hit the screens here on December 18.

As for Andhra Pradesh, the distributor is B. Madhu, the man who produced ‘Tagore’ with megastar Chiranjeevi and ‘Ghajini’ with Aamir Khan. He says the Telugu version was releasing on 200 screens with 150 prints.

Starring Sigourney Weaver, Michelle Rodriguez, Sam Worthington, C.C.H. Pounder, Giovanni Ribisi, Stephen Lang and Zoe Saldana, the 161-minute film was under production for almost 12 years and is the most expensive in world history, costing a whopping Rs. 2,400 crore. It may be recalled that ‘Titanic’ cost about Rs. 1,100 crore. The most expensive Telugu film was the Ramcharan Tej-starrer ‘Magadheera’, directed by S.S. Rajamouli that cost Rs. 38 crore and grossed revenues in excess of Rs. 65 crore.
New trend

The entire film has a blue backdrop and the story per se is about ‘blue’ people on another planet. The digital intermediary, graphics and special effects component is 60 per cent and only 40 per cent has shots of people and places.

Also, it is set to usher in a new trend for Hollywood films in India, becoming the first-ever 3-D Hollywood to be released in regional languages too. Until now, 3-D films like ‘Ice Age’ were only dubbed in Hindi, while ‘X-Men Origins: Wolverine’ and ‘2012’ were dubbed in Telugu and Tamil too.

Producer M. Shyamprasad Reddy, who made ‘Arundhati’ most recently says, “I don’t think I have ever waited so much for a film to release. And the high expectations are simply because it comes from a man like James Cameron who made films like ‘Aliens’, ‘True Lies’, ‘Abyss’ and ‘Titanic’.”

Multiplexes across the country are said to have upgraded their technology to screen this 3-D film.

Vijay Singh of Fox Star Studios India says, the local market for Hollywood films was growing fast.

Covers that rock

FashionMag2.jpg

Heaps of foundation, tan sprays, concealer and photoshop of course make the perfect cover girl or guy that make both the sexes drool over the cover itself.

Let's not forget to give credit to the lighting designers, make up artists and photographers. They are the geniuses that ensure every flaw is covered up, that the light highlights your best features and that you're shot at your best angle.

Let's face it whoever said a book is judged by its cover wasn't fibbing. Whether it's the smokin' hot john Abraham shirtless bearing his washboard abs or even the sultry and sexy Katrina Kaif looking absolutely ravishing.

We went through some of the most read and known magazines to select the hottest covers of 2009 [Read the "why" section to know what made these covers rock according to our readers]

FashionMag3.jpg

Why: No other celebrity who wore the same Dior dress looked as gorgeous as she did and her even tanned complexion with the dress went like cookies with milk. - Lucy Fernandez, Secretary

GQ - Arjun Rampal
Why: We love the fact that even though he's fully suited up, we can't wait to tear the suit off. His expression makes us wonder what exactly he's thinking off. The shot is amazing! - Jolene D'cruz

Apart from the ramps, magazines are the designer's showcase for their beautiful collections and the celebrities on the covers have to be a perfect outlet for the beautiful creations to look just as dashing as they envisioned it.

Over the years, magazine covers have been getting bolder and much more expensive. Making someone look that good never came cheap you know. You probably never even knew that magazine cover awards existed! And making a statement has never been easier.

Magazines have celebrities on covers that support causes, are against wearing fur or legalising gay rights, yeah, we've seen it all, and there's so much more to come.

How about you leave us a comment on your favourite magazine covers.

How filmi: Poster controversy

380x255.jpg

These days anything can spin off a controversy. It can be a name like Mustafa/Jodhaa, a word like Barber/slumdog or a usual lets-kiss-and-make-out scene. Most of the radicals-turned-rioters mouth one of these excuses as justification, you can’t use this name because it’s the name of our prophet, you can’t use this word because it demeans our occupation, you can’t depict nudity because it's against our moral values, etc, etc… Probably their motto in life is 'When nothing better to do – SUE!'

Recently Karan Johar’s film Kurbaan was mired in controversy with Shiv Sena objecting to the movie's poster that flaunts actress Kareena Kapoor's bare back. Also when Madhur Bhandarkar’s Jail got into trouble (because of Neil's nude scene) with the sentiments of this so called rakhwalas-of-religion, the censor board had to be summoned to butt-in (pun intended).
Even A R Rahman's first Hollywood venture after Slumdog Millionaire, a film titled Couple's Retreat is at the centre of a race controversy after two black actors were removed from the movie poster, to promote the film in Britain.

With so many controversies brimming, it reminded us of other movies which got into trouble because of their posters. Lets take a look...

1. Julie:
What Kareena did in Kurbaan was done by Neha in Julie way back in 2004. Unlike Kareena, who had the support of Karan Johar and beau Saifoo, Neha had to face the wrath of Hindu activists all by herself. Although before Julie was released Dilip Banerjee, a member of the Central Board of Film Certification, did say the movie "is based on a solid theme and its fit for an Oscar award". YEAH RIGHT we say, but we also say what would you rather see a BARE-back or a bear's hairy back? Your call!

Ffire.jpg

2. Fire:
Men all over the world - desi or pardesi - swear by girl-on-girl action. While in Hollywood homosexuality or bi-sexuality is not a big deal, in Bollywood it is. The same happened with Deepa Mehta's film which focused on a lesbian relationship between two sister-in-laws. Although it was not as much about movie-poster as it was about lesbianism, nonetheless every theater which had these posters were vandalised by the Right-wing activists.

3
. Runway:
When a model wears a cross its fashion but when Bollywood wears a cross, its blasphemy! The filmmakers Sunil-Praful found themselves at the receiving end of some threatening calls. Why? Because the catholic community was offended with the poster of the film that showed its lead actor with a gun in one hand and the cross on the other!
Fgirlfriend.jpg

4. Heroes:
There was no 'intolerance' problem over here. It was more like a problem of plagiarism. When the movie poster of Heroes was released it immediately reminded everyone of Lage Raho Munnabhai. Although Samir Karnik, the director of Heroes, publicly denied the media’s so-called allegation, he did not deny the resemblance.

5. Girlfriend
:
Karan Razdan is infamously known for his sleazy films and sleazier titles. If you’ve not heard of them then Hawas and Rakhail: The Mistress should be loud and clear. Although Girlfriend had genuinely a different love triangle the lesbianism angle didn’t go down well with Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS). The protestors were so irate that they tore down almost all the posters and the banners. Seeing the reaction we wonder what will they do if Britney Spears and Madonna decide to do a concert here?

P.S: They protest Murder type movies because they don’t like BOY-kissing-GIRL scene, they also disapprove Fire type movie because they don’t like GIRL-kissing-GIRL scene but when it comes to GUY-kissing-GUY scene like the one in Dostana they’ve NO problem whatsoever! Hypocrisy, we tell you!

Do movie posters get your blood boiling or are the naysayers creating mountains out of mole hills? Leave us a comment and let us know.

AR Rahman's salute to Jacko

Double Oscar-winner AR Rahman is so inspired by Michael Jackson's music that he is set to include the compositions of the iconic pop star as a subject at his music school, the KM Music Conservatory in Chennai. Rahman will also don the hat of a lecturer for this course, giving the first lecture on Jackson, his life and times, and how it influenced his own music.

"I have been inspired by Michael and his works for years now. I had met him and though he was such a big star, he was always a very humble human being. That really touched and inspired me. I think he was an inspiration for an entire generation. His music must have influenced countless musicians across the world and it would be an honour for me to have the students of my music school learn and discuss the artist of the century," Rahman told DNA.

The composer adds: "Michael is an institution in his own right. His work is vast in variation and quantity. He showed his expertise in genres like R&B, Pop, Soul. We are looking at teaching our student various genres of music and also about music that left an impression on the minds and hearts of generations. Michael undoubtedly is one of them. Personally, it will be a matter of pride to talk to my students about Michael's music. I have enjoyed his music for years now and I've been grieved by his untimely demise."

Rahman also goes on to say that Michael's sudden death has taught him a big lesson of life. "Michael Jackson was living a life which many like me can only dream of. He was a legend and did not have to hanker for the spotlight. Despite him having everything, he died in a second. It has taught me the greatest lessonabout how life truly is. You can have everything but all those things might not be of any use," he says.

Rahman adds: "I have realised that the spotlight might be on me now because I have won awards and am doing some good work. I have to make sure that all this attention does not blind me from looking inside, and my family. I can't let the spotlight take control of my mind because the day I don't work well, all this will also go in a second."

I pray my marriage works: Shilpa

Shilpa Shetty, who is marrying London-based Raj Kundra Nov 22, is facing pre-nuptial blues. She admits she is experiencing "mixed feelings" as the D-day draws near.

"To all those who want to know how I am feeling, I just want to say I'm going through a lot of mixed feelings - happiness, excitement, nervousness, just like any bride to be and sadness as well," Shilpa posted on her blog. The 34-year-old actress is tying the knot with businessman Raj Kundra, whom she has been dating since 2007.

"Honestly it still hasn't sunk in completely, it's a strange emotion, can't describe it. The only consolation is that I'm tying the knot with Raj - a man who lets me be myself and doesn't want me or my life to change and that erases premarital jitters," she said. "Obviously marriage is a huge step and with it come responsibilities, and since I believe in the institution, so I hope and pray that I can make ours a success."

Shilpa says she has been busy with the wedding preparations for the past two weeks but is also trying hard to fulfill her professional commitments so that she can set out for a one-month honeymoon with Raj after the wedding. She is currently shooting in Hyderabad for the last schedule of Indo-Chinese project "Desire".

"I'm shooting in Hyderabad, everything had to be done before I'd left for this schedule. In the midst of Odissi rehearsals (can you believe it! Because I am shooting for a song here), (I'm handling) guests list, hotel arrangements, wedding planners, trousseau outfits, the list is never ending. "There's a lot of work to be done and I will be shooting and dubbing till a week before the wedding. Got to finish all work commitments before I leave for a month after the wedding," she said.

The actress is now only hoping that her younger sister Shamita Shetty, who is a participant on reality show "Bigg Boss 3", comes out to be with her in the "last few days at home". Shilpa will have a quiet wedding ceremony with close friends and family Nov 22 and has plans for a lavish reception two days later.

Salman Khan is the new Superman!

aamirwol.jpg

Spiderman’s chacha rightly said, “With great power comes great responsibility”. And all the superheroes that Hollywood has churned over five decades, have taken that responsibility very, very seriously. Here in B-town we got our first superhero with Krrish played by Hrithik Roshan. Where Krrish was a hit (ONLY with the kids), Drona starring Abhishek Bachcan was not. It bombed so badly that it had Hiroshima/ Nagasaki effect on every theatre. It wiped the entire audience out!
Recently Shah Rukh Khan has announced his next home production movie titled Ra.one where he will play a superhero with Kareena Kapoor as his leading lady. Now, we don’t know what will be the outcome of the movie but we can't stop imagining how our desi heroes will fare as the most popular superheroes of all time
Who: Wolverine from X-men series
His powers: He has an accelerated healing process. So much so, that he can regenerate any damaged body tissue within seconds. Along with that he has three retractable claws lodged within each forearm with which he can thrash and slash his enemies in no time.
The actor: Aamir Khan. In Ghajini, Aamir showcased his meanest streak with his don’t-mess-with–me look. And just like Hugh Jackman he proved that if he’s good at melting a heart, he is better at kicking an ass. Besides he wouldn’t even need to work on his dialogues. Who better to say "I'm the best there is at what I do" than self-proclaimed number one Aamir.
hritbat.jpg
Who: Batman
His powers: He is the only superhero who is a mortal and uses the skill of the mind to conquer immortal enemies. Batman puts his wealth, spy skills, muscle power to good use and uses science and technology to his advantage. It is this combination that turns him from human to super human.
The Actor: Hrithik Roshan. Born in a wealthy family with a silver spoon in his mouth, who better to emulate the elegant Bruce Wayne than our very own style-icon Hrithik Roshan. He is smart, he is savvy and he would easily be able to ride the reverred batmobile at Dhoom speed! Why? Because he's already born with the THUMB power.

ranspider1.jpg
Who: Spiderman His powers: He’s got superhuman strength with advanced equilibrium with which he can climb walls effortlessly. He also has the ability to sense danger - it’s called the ‘spider sense’.
The Actor: Ranbir Kapoor. He has successfully displayed his nimbleness and agility with his dancing skills (Don’t tell us you have forgotten the towel sequence in Saawariya!). The same dexterity describes ‘your friendly neighbourhood Spiderman’ in one word. And who better to portray the very shy Peter Parker than the ever-so-unpretentious Ranbir Kapoor? He’s already ruling the world wide web!

saifiron.jpg
Who: Ironman His powers: Iron Man possesses powered armour that gives him superhuman strength and flight! He also possesses ESP (Extra Sensory Perception).
The Actor: Saif Ali Khan. Tony Stark has an inherited fortune and is a recovering alcoholic and a habitual playboy very much like our Chhote Nawab. His romance with women in his life is quite well-known and so is his struggle with nicotine. He’s got the brain and he’s got the charm and according to us, he absolutely fits the bill.

salsuper.jpg
Who: Superman His powers: "Look, up in the sky, it's a bird, no, it's a plane, no, it's Superman!" "Faster than a speeding bullet, stronger than a locomotive, and able to leap buildings with a single bound!" The iconic catchphrase say it all and what’s more he’s the only superhero who can fly albeit without the help of powered armour.
The Actor: Now it’s very difficult to find an Indian counterpart to replicate Superman. Even Warner Brothers failed to resurrect him on the screen until 2004, that’s more than two decades after the last Superman movie. But we have more than one reason to believe that Salman Khan would perfectly fit into the red shoes of Superman. A] He is the only actor who will be able to carry off the blue tights with a red cape and red underwear secured with yellow belt. B] His close friends and family would vouch for his humble and selfless attitude. That describes Clark Kent, Superman’s alter ego.C] No one can question his machoism [ask Vivek Oberoi!].

Kaif didn't like Sallu's dress

Here’s one man who knows how to win the hearts of women, be it by taking off his shirt or by going the extra mile to make them feel special! And this time, when Salman Khan came to the city, he held a screening of his forthcoming movie, Main Aurr Mrs Khanna, exclusively for women.

“I respect women and the screening was a different experience altogether. It was a lot of fun,” he said. Watching the movie along with him were Sohail Khan, Sajid-Wajid, Sanjana Jon and Prem Soni, the director of the flick.

And it’s not just the women who are on his side, he has the support of his friends too. Buddies Aamir Khan, Ajay Devgn, Sanjay Dutt, Govinda and Saif Ali Khan and brother Arbaaz Khan walked the ramp for his charity fashion show at HDIL India Couture Week 2009. “It was an amazing experience and I am so grateful that my friends made it a success,” he said. But, while all walked back home happy, Katrina Kaif wasn’t too happy. She sported an outfit that had a painting of Salman’s on it. “Honestly, she didn’t appreciate it much. Nevertheless, she enjoyed being a part of the show.” So does he plan to continue painting? “I don’t plan anything. I love painting and that’s why I do it,” he said.

And that’s not all – he likes to bond with the common man too and it was Dus Ka Dum, the reality show that he hosted, that gave him a chance to interact with his fans. “It was an instant connect with people. They gave me a chance to be honest and I let them talk about their lives,” he said. And while the show ended on Diwali, Salman says, “I liked being on the small screen and hope to be back soon. I know people want to see me again.” From TV to cricket, is an IPL team on the cards? “Nahin, abhi kuch nahin hua hain. Dekhte hain,” he said.

I never rate my music: Rahman

Post the colossal fame and the trappings that came with the Oscar-winning Slumdog Millionaire, Rahman’s finally back doing what he does best – music. His first Hollywood score after the double delight – Couples Retreat (CR) – has just hit screens abroad and he’s excited that it’s doing well.

Working on a Hollywood score has given the musician a chance to explore a variety of genres. “The music might be subtly mixed in the film, but it serves the purpose perfectly,” says Rahman about his experience, “My primary aim while composing the music was to bring out the spirit of the island the couples go to. At some places, I had to give them what the film required and at some, I gave them the type of music that I’m known for. Getting that balance was quite a challenge.”

Lyrically yours
One of the highlights of the CR score is that it features a Tamil song titled Kurukuru Kan ... . So, how did Rahman decide to provide local flavour to a global film? “The makers wanted something exotic to suit the spirit of the island,” recalls Rahman, “It could have been African, Indian or anything else. But then, Tamil can be exotic too!”

That’s when the idea of including a Tamil number crept into the ace musician’s mind. “I sat down and penned the lyrics myself,” he reveals, “But honestly, it wasn’t much of a task as I just needed a string of words that sounded interesting phonetically. They loved the track and gave me the go ahead.” So, is this the first time that the musician has tried his hand at penning lyrics? “In a way, yes,” he states.

The student phase
Used to the routine give-me-a-track-for-the-situation, Rahman found the manner in which Hollywood works, interesting and radically different. “Marks were given to each department once work was finished,” he says, “For instance, once I composed a track, it used to be played out and the unit would judge it and give it points. They would then discuss whether it would work or not for the audience.”

This method of working was something entirely new to Rahman, who feels that it would be great if local filmmakers took a leaf out of their book. “It happens all the time — after a film releases, we have the audience saying things like ‘one song didn’t work, the second half was a bit boring’,” he says, “If an outsider’s point of view is taken before the film releases, it sets the ground for better films.”

Perfect ‘son’rise
The Nana... song is the most popular piece of CR, which features 15 tracks. And, it’s close to the musician’s heart as it marks the singing debut of his son! “Yes, Nana... is the hot favourite abroad,” he gushes, “Making my son sing a couple of lines was not a big ordeal at all. He was fooling around in the room when I was composing the song. And, just as an experiment, I made him sing a couple of lines and recorded it. I used it because it fit the mood of the track perfectly.”

How many marks would he give himself out of ten for his first Hollywood soundtrack, post the Oscar success? “I never rate my music,” he states matter-of-factly.

Sallu, sari dress & hunks!

Entertainment was the power factor at Day-2 of HDIL India Couture Week 2009.
Sari, it's a dress!
Pallavi Jaikishen's collection titled 'Five Stories' was a showcase of the sari in its various avatars and a range of antique jewellery by the designer.
Inspired by the sari, Jaikishen created - Le Sari Dress (an evening gown with sari drapes), lehenga and dupattas styled like a sari, and introduced jewellery with vintage elements which were sourced from antique market hubs like Alfies and Garys in London and Clinyancourt in France. The designer had been collecting these jewellery pieces over decades.
Besides, the sensuous sari, there were salwar-kurtas, long jackets, and ghagras. Jaikishen played with gold hues and gold brocades to create opulent garments in shades like feminine pink, peach, antique silver, red, emerald green, and champagne.

The showstopper piece was an elaborate bridal sari in gold with a long trail that had fairy lights lining the end!

Bollywood takes centrestage
Being Human - The Salman Khan Foundation fashion show was a mega entertainer. Salman got all his actor friends from the industry to walk the ramp or attend his show. Bollywood bigwigs were in full attendance and they could not stop cheering as Salman, brothers Arbaaz and Sohail, Govinda, Ajay Devgan, Saif Ali Khan, Sanjay Dutt, Akshay Kumar, Amir Khan and Katrina Kaif took to the ramp. The menswear was designed by Salman Khan in collaboration with designer Kunal Rawal. Katrina Kaif wore a gown by Falguni and Shane Peacock hand painted by Salman. Almost all garments had Swarovski embellishments and there were accessories like bags and watches too.
Gavin Miguel, Babita Malkani, Falguni and Shane Peacock, Ashish Soni, Rohit Gandhi and Rahul Khanna were the other designers who worked with the actor to present their collection in the show. Designer Aki Narula was the stylist and most models maintained the Bollywood diva look with sleek hair and big sunglasses. Mother Salma and Helen joined Salman for the final bow while Akki and Kat maintained a safe distance...
Sallu's quotable quotes
Salman explains that he has priced his clothes at a nominal rate so that they are affordable as all proceeds will be directed towards the Salman Khan Foundation. While speaking to the media the rather 'straightforward' actor gave some quotable quotes:
Reporter: Why didn't Shah Rukh Khan walk the ramp? Haven't you settled your differences with SRK?
Salman: There are no differences! I don't enjoy such questions and want to know if you enjoy asking such questions. So, don't ask my whether there exists some animosity between me and another actor or when I am getting married!
Reporter: How was Katrina on the ramp?
Salman: Katrina was a model so walking on the ramp was not a problem. But when she started getting into movies, acting was a problem.
Reporter: Why were so many actors walking the ramp and there was just one actress?
Salman: Kyunki actors ko sambhalna easy hota hai aur actresses ko sambhalna easy nahin hota!
