It’s Raksha Bandhan – a time to celebrate bhai-behen-ka-pavitra-rishta! And how can Bollywood miss this emotional bond. It has had its own share of brother-sister pairs.
Let’s look at some on-screen pairs…. some which struck a chord with the audience, and some which are better forgotten.
The weird ones
This title has many nominees. The casting directors surely had a good sense of humour when they decided to sign on these actors as siblings.
Aishwarya Rai - Amitabh Bachchan
Can you believe this? The real life sasur-bahu played brother and sister in Hum Kisi Se Kam Nahi! Now that’s really bizarre considering their age difference. Surely, this is one pair no one wants to remember.
Dharmendra - Kajol
All of us recall Pyar Kiya Toh Darna Kya for Salman’s shirtless act. But do you remember Dharmendra playing Kajol’s brother! Thank God, the producers didn’t think of replacing Salman with Dharmendra. This pair didn’t spark any bhai-behen ka pyaar.
Akshay Kumar - Juhi Chawla
Knowing the flirt that Akshay is, it’s difficult to imagine him as anyone’s brother! And the very pregnant Juhi Chawla (playing his sister) in Ek Rishta – The Bond (no relation to James Bond or one of Akki’s earlier films Mr Bond), made it really funny. Juhi looked bored and tired while Akshay looked more interested in romancing Karishma.
Nana Patekar - Katrina Kaif

The best ones
Then there were some pairs who really touched our hearts.
Aishwarya Rai - Shah Rukh Khan

Josh saw both the super stars play brother-sister. Not many remember the film, but Aishwarya and Shahrukh were good together, and fun to watch. Especially, in the song ‘Apun Bola’, where Aishwarya helps Shahrukh understand his girlfriend.
Shreyas Talpade - Shweta Prasad

Iqbal was one of those rare emotional gems that inspire you. The struggling dumb and deaf cricketer and an encouraging young sister – a lethal combo to instigate enough tears! And both the actors were simply awesome in their roles.
Genelia D’souza - Prateik Babbar

Catfights and arguments – the new-age brother and sister! This one from Jaane Tu Ya Jaane Na is one of the best to come out of Bollywood. No typical rona-dhona scenes – just plain fun with bouts of jealousy and even wickedness. Thumbs up to this one!
Did we leave out any on screen brother-sister pair who you think rocked or flopped? Do leave us a comment and let us know.
