The page 3 circle is filled with sugarbabes who are gorgeous, young, smart, trendy and refined women who are capable of holding an intelligent conversation. They can be signed up for a night to be your date for a party, dance with you at a nightclub or be your arm candy at a high profile social event. They charge in either cash or gifts. However, there is no exchange of sexual favours.
Industrialist daddies and sons, nouveau riche romeos and flashy youngsters in the city all have access to the social circles brimming with these pretty young things who are only too happy to tag along with someone who can supplement their income or lifestyle. DJ Akash who spins in an upmarket city nightclub says, “As long as you are a hi-flier who can afford to wine, dine and treat a lady nice, it’s easy to get these sugarbabes to be your date for an evening. Those who are part of the party circuit find it easier as there are a couple of P3 boys who can get you an attractive arm candy for a price.”
And it’s not just for the uber-rich; young party-goers and even married men will pay cash to be seen with a sugarbabe. Sandeep, a party regular reveals, “Married men whose wives are away from the city also hire these sugarbabes when they attend social dos. They are often introduced as a ‘dear friend’ working as an ‘air hostess’, so no eyebrows are raised. Some of these ladies are now popular faces on the P3 circuit and live in upmarket neighbourhoods like Jubilee Hills and Banjara Hills.”
The high demand for sugarbabes in the P3 circuit is making it a flourishing business here. Akash adds, “Hyderabad is fast emerging as a hub for sugarbabes. young ladies between 18 and 35 from Delhi, Kolkata, Mumbai and parts of East India come down here just to work as arm candies. You can find them at city pubs like Touch, 360O, 10D and others, hanging out just like any other pub hopper. It’s a close-knit network, and only those who are trusted members within the party world are aware of this Some of the city’s own models are very famous sugarbabes in cities like Delhi and Bengaluru.”
The services don’t come cheap. Prices start at 5,000 and go up to 20,000 for a few hours, depending on factors like looks, age etc. Some sugarbabes don’t necessarily ask to be paid in cash. The client foots all their bills and picks the tab while dining out or shopping. Sometimes, a pair of expensive shoes or a designer purse is all it takes. Cops state that hiring or being a sugarbabe is not illegal as there is no provision in the law at present. However, running a business by offering such services is a crime. C. Ravi Verma, DCP, Crime, West Zone, says, “if any person is benefiting and profiting from this, it’s an offence and he or she will be booked under Prevention of immoral trafficking Act. nobody brings it to our notice, so it’s hard to book them.”
