Vedika: Coy, conventional star next door

Actress Vedika is donning a traditional role in her soon-to-be released film Baanam produced by Three Angels Studio. She feels that most girls would be able to identify with her plain Jane looks in the film. “It was specially designed that way,” she elaborates. Vedika is all praise for young producer Priyanka Dutt for designing her “girl-next-door looks” and claims that her character is that of someone who is innocent young girl. “It’s a performance-oriented role. And I could personally relate to it as well,” she adds.

While the pretty Vedika seems very confident about essaying a conventional role, (something that most stars are wary of) can she make inroads into glam-centric Tollywood? “Well, I am open to glam roles. As an actor I would like to strike a balance between glam and performance-oriented roles,” she confesses. And does she see herself joining the bikini brigade in T-town at some point? “No. I’d never sport a bikini for a film. That’s not for me,” she points out hastily.

Vedika is also making waves in Kollywood with hits like Madrasi, Kaalai and Sakkaraikatti. “I did Sakkaraikati since A R Rahman was composing music and he made India proud by bagging the Oscars,” she says.
Likewise, Vedika has also tasted success in Kannada films with a smashing hit (Sangamam). After working with top Sandalwood stars like Simbu and Ganesh, doesn’t she want to share screen space with some T-town biggies as well? “Of course, I would love to act with them provided I get the right kind of offers,” she avers.
Looks like Tollywood’s got itself another multi-lingual star.
