From being criticised for taking up hackneyed roles to being charged with the allegations of being too pricey (she is said to have demanded Rs 1 crore for a film), Ileana has been receiving much flak.
Critics have accused her of playing a damsel in distress once too often. The actress however, rubbishes this saying, “A majority of my roles are not that of a damsel in distress. It’s a male-dominated film industry and one can not have the actresses bashing up men.”
With Shriya Saran, Asin acting in big banner flicks in Mumbai, Ileana too is keen on testing Bollywood waters. “I am comfortable doing Telugu films but if the script is interesting, I would like to act in a Hindi film.”
The lady claims she has been offered many a role in Bollywood, but she had to turn them down as she is, “choosy when it comes to films.” She adds, “I want my debut in Bollywood to be big, like it was in Telugu. Scripts matter the most. Even a role opposite the biggest star in Bollywood wouldn’t appeal to me if the script was weak.”
The Pokiri actress has also been criticised for not mastering Telugu yet. “People question why I still dub for my films, but movies are shot fast and the directors don’t have the luxury of time to wait for me to master the language. However, I do speak Telugu on the sets.” Whether she has mastered Telugu or not, this Mumbai girl with Goan roots says, “Hyderabad rocks.” “Hyderabadis are really nice and warm.” And though she has no immediate plans of settling down in the city, she says, “I might consider shifting base later.”
With fingers crossed for the release of her next film Saleem, she is already gearing up to tackle other projects in her kitty. “Saleem will release in December. I am nervous about it. I hope we get a positive response. However, next month onwards, I will start shooting with Junior NTR for my next movie.”
