A plea to stay the elections to the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) was not accepted by the Division Bench of the Andhra Pradesh High Court on Monday.
The Bench was delivering orders on writ petitions challenging the ordinance issued by the State government wherein it was declared that the creamy layer among the Backwards Classes need not be deleted for the purpose of these elections. The Bench felt that at this stage the poll process cannot be interdicted. It reminded that the Supreme Court in a recent judgment had indicated that elections can go on.
