Gunmen open fire in Hyderabad India, kill policeman

A police constable was killed and two others injured when some unidentified people fired at them outside a police station in Hyderabad's old city area.

According to eyewitnesses five police constables were standing near a picket outside the police station when two people on a two-wheeler opened fire at them.

Ruling out any terror angle to the attack Commissioner of Police, Hyderabad AK Khan told CNN-IBN that "people should not worry".

"At 4 PM today in old city of Hyderabad some tension happened. Two people on a two-wheeler fired on constables of Special Branch. We know the people but difficult to name the organisation. A short barrel weapon was used bt the attackers," said Khan.

But police sources claim that the banned Student's Islamic Movement of India is behind the attack. They say a SIMI activist Syed Viqaruddin is suspected to be behind the attack. Viqaruddin was involved in a similar incident of firing on police personnel earlier also.

The attackers fled from the scene after firing at the constables. A massive manhunt has been launched to catch the attackers.
