Does YSR Congress Party President Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy hate the Telugu media? His consistent reluctance to grant interviews to the vernacular publications has raised this question in media circles. However, he has been liberally giving interviews to journalists of English publications, preferably published from outside Andhra Pradesh.
There is a joke in the media circles that Jagan prefers to talk to lady reporters of Delhi-based news channels and magazines. A string of interviews in upcountry media and TV channels bears testimony to this. When it comes to talking to the local media, he displays a complete sense of disdain. Recently, he gave exclusive interviews to the correspondents of Delhi-based Hindustan Times, Times of India, Outlook and The Week magazines.
The industrialist-turned-politician allows the upcountry journalists to accompany him on his election tours and grants interview to the them while traveling in his vehicle. A similar privilege is never extended to the local media. Jagan has not convened a press conference with Telugu media for a long time now. Even at the time of the launch of his party, he did not address a press conference. This sense of indifference could be because he himself owns a Telugu daily and a TV channel.
Jagan has also dragged the local media into the politics. He openly accuses "Eenadu", "Andhra Jyothy" and TV9 of working against his interests.
