Aamir to launch acting school

Aamir Khan isn’t just happy to be called an institution. It seems he wants to open one now. Coming from Aamir, it comes as no surprise though.

The perfectionist we hear is scouting locales all over and near Mumbai for a suitable location to open his own acting academy. Aamir is saddened by the fact that though Mumbai is the hub of Bollywood, there is a dearth of acting institutes.

However, the actor is now planning to set up an acting school to do his bit to rectify the problem. Knowing his reputation, we are sure there will be a mad rush of hopefuls on the first day itself.

Aamir influencing multiplexes?

Actor Aamir Khan has denied his role in allegedly forming a cartel to corner multiplexes over
release of films and argued before the Bombay High Court that the show cause notice issued to him by Competition Commission of India (CCI) was a form of harassment to him.

The issue pertains to the strike last year by film producers who decided not to screen movies in multiplexes over payment matters. The multiplex owners had approached CCI which issued a show cause notice to Khan in December last year based on its enquiry report which said he had joined Bollywood producers in a cartel to influence multiplexes over release of films. Khan filed a petition in the Bombay High Court challenging the show cause notice on the ground that CCI had no jurisdiction over the issue.

When the petition was heard yesterday, Khan's counsel said the actor or his production house, Aamir Khan Productions Private Ltd, had no role to play in forming the cartel and this was a form of harassment to the actor.

Khan's Counsel Arshad Hidayutallah argued that at the time of strike none of the films produced by Khan were due for release. He submitted CCI had already made up its mind as its preliminary enquiry report said that there appeared to be substance in allegations against the actor's production house.

Additional Solicitor General Darius Khambata argued that CCI had the jurisdiction to hear the case. Chief Justice Mohit Shah and Justice S C Dharmadhikari deferred the matter to August 2 for further hearing.

Aamir on a break till 2012

When it comes to planning a filmi career, no one knows it better than Aamir Khan.

Many of our B-town beauties would hit the panic button if they didn’t have atleast one movie in hand, and even sign up for mediocre projects in desperation (no faults of theirs, blame it on the rat-race). But this Khan man has a strange way of planning his career. Well, call him an idiot if you please, we think he’d love that too. After enjoying one of the biggest successes of Indian cinema, Aamir has pulled the brakes on his career. Currently he is only focussed on his wife’s directorial debut, Dhobhi Ghat, and his next production Peepli Live. Soon after that all his attention will be on nephew, Imran’s Delhi Belly. So dearies, chances are that we won’t be seeing AK in a full-fledged role till 2012. Hmmm... suddenly ‘all izz not well’ with your fans, AK. C’mon, you can’t do this to them, yaar.
