Shah Rukh Khan's wife Gauri, who is also the co-producer of My Name is Khan, visited the INOX multiplex in south Mumbai with her daughter Suhana. "What is the better way than saying Jai Maharashtra. We love Mumbai and Shah Rukh is really excited and will be coming to the cinemas tomorrow to meet his fans," she said.

Heathrow denies SRK's body-scan autograph claim
Britain's airport authorities have dismissed as "simply not true" claims by Bollywood superstar Shah Rukh Khan that he autographed printouts of his body-scan for female security staff at Heathrow airport.
BAA, which owns and operates British airports, said SRK's claims made last week on the popular 'Friday Night with Jonathan Ross' television show were "completely factually incorrect".
The subject of Khan's body scan came up while he was telling Jonathan Ross how his new film, 'My Name is Khan', is all about a Muslim named Khan who wants to inform the US president that he is not a terrorist.
"I'm always stopped by the security, because of the name. And I think it's okay: the western world is a little bit worried, paranoid and touchy, I guess - and feely when they're frisking you," Khan told his celebrity chat show host.
"I was in London recently going through the airport and these new machines have come up, the body scans. You've got to see them. It makes you embarrassed - if you're not well endowed.
"You walk into the machine and everything - the whole outline of your body - comes out."
Khan said he did not know that the body-scans - installed in the wake of last year's abortive Christmas Day attempt to bomb a transatlantic flight over Detroit - showed up every little detail of the body.
"I was a little scared. Something happens [inside the scans], and I came out.
"Then I saw these girls - they had these printouts. I looked at them. I thought they were some forms you had to fill. I said 'give them to me' - and you could see everything inside.
"So I autographed them for them."
But a BAA spokeswoman said body-scanning machines at Heathrow could not store or print images in any form.
She said there would be no investigation into SRK's claims because they "simply could not be true".
Recent moves to install full-body scanners in airports have caused a furore in the West with civil rights campaigners saying they are worried about invasion of privacy. They say there are no guarantees that images of naked bodies will not be stored or distributed.

SRK wins, Sena loses: Mumbai watches MNIK
My Name Is Khan Watched by Mumbaiker
My Name Is Khan got full house in two Mumbai theatres—the Shiv Sena’s protests against the movie’s actor Shah Rukh Khan didn’t scare fans.
Fun Cinemas was the first multiplex in Mumbai to announce that it will not screen the movie on Friday, but later made a turnaround and decided to go ahead with the shows. Inox too screened the film. The movie was sold out at both the theatres.
Fame is expected to start at 2.30 p.m., but other multiplexes like fame Adlabs and Big Cinemas are not following suit. Morning shows across 63 theatres in Mumbai were cancelled though there was extra security around the multiplexes in this financial and entertainment capital of India.
Actress Pooja Bedi who came to Fun Cinemas with her father Kabir Bedi couldn't get tickets. All they saw was a House Full sign.
"I am certainly disappointed for not getting tickets but very happy that the film is going House Full. Police are doing a fabulous job. People need not fear at all. I walked down the street, there were no one with lathi (stick) and stones," Bedi told reporters outside the Fun Cinemas multiplex in Andheri West.
The movie was originally scheduled to hit 63 cinema halls in Mumbai. It ran into trouble as Shiv Sainiks started going on the rampage Tuesday, to protest Shah Rukh Khan's statement that Pakistani cricketers should have been included in this year's edition of the Indian Premier League.
Early afternoon, other multiplexes and major cinema owners were still closeted in a meeting with the movie's distributors and producers to sort out the issue of adequate security if they did decide to screen the film. Their decision is expected to be known later this afternoon.
The no-show in the morning came despite assurance of adequate security for the movie screening by Chief Minister Ashok Chavan, Home Minister R R Patil, Minister of State for Home Ramesh Bagwe and Police Commissioner D. Shivanandhan.
Patil called the movie’s screening a success for the government.
Halls that did not screen the film include the G-7 cinemas, Apsara, Maratha Mandir, Dadar Plaza, Broadway and other single-screen halls.
In a related development, Revenue Minister Narayan Rane demanded that the registration of Shiv Sena as a political party be cancelled.

Maharashtra cinema owners back off, not to release SRK's MNIK
In an embarrassing show of no-confidence in the Congress-led state government, multiplex and theatre owners on Thursday decided not to release the Shah Rukh Khan flick, My Name Is Khan, in Mumbai and other parts of the state on Friday.
Exhibitors will now take a wait-and-watch approach to the release of the film in Maharashtra. Late-night reports said multiplex owners would meet again on Friday morning to take a final call and it might be decided that each multiplex chain would release the film at only one multiplex and wait for the response. But no consensus emerged till late in the night as the fear factor weighed oppressively on every multiplex owner's mind.

'MNIK' bookings stop, 1,000 held as Sena stirs more trouble
More than 1,000 activists of the Shiv Sena were arrested for vandalising cinemas and multiplexes that will screen "My Name Is Khan", forcing several theatres in this film capital to Wednesday stop advance bookings.
Meanwhile shops were shutdown in Parel and Lalbaug after local Sena leader Dagdu Sakpal was arrested by the police.
As the Shiv Sena went on the rampage two days before the release of the Shah Rukh Khan starrer -- despite the Mumbai Police assuring security cover at the 63 cinemas and multiplexes scheduled to show the movie here from Friday -- the administration arrested 1,023 party workers between Tuesday night and Wednesday morning.
They were booked under various charges like rioting, damaging property, unlawful assembly and trespass, officials said. Fearful of further damage, multiplex chains like Big Cinemas, PVR and Cinemax withdrew their advance bookings for the film, as did single screen theatres like Mehul in Mulund and Shreyas in Ghatkopar.
"We have shut the advance bookings for the film as of now. It may open (later) but nothing is certain," Girish Wankhede, deputy general manager (Corporate Communication) of Cinemax, said.
Pramod Madhve, an official from Mehul Theatre, said: "Nothing about the film's release is fixed yet. We hope to receive updates by tomorrow. But the advance bookings have been shut for now."
A Shreyas Theatre official said: "Bookings have been closed as of now, we should be in a position to tell you about the release by tomorrow."
"My Name Is Khan" has been under the Shiv Sena scanner ever since superstar Shah Rukh made comments in favour of the inclusion of Pakistani cricketers in the Indian Premier League (IPL). Shah Rukh is co-owner of the Kolkata Knight Riders team.

SRK nude scan autographs raise alarm
One More controversy Hits MNK Shah Rukh Khan has made a mockery of the invasive new airport security system at London airports.
The British transport secretary said last week that images taken by new full-body X-ray scanners, which capture in detail the human anatomy, would be destroyed immediately and not pose a risk to travellers' privacy. But Khan has inadvertently put paid to the government's claims, telling BBC talk show host Jonathan Ross that he autographed printed scans of his own body for two female security officers.
"I came out [of the scanner] and then I saw these girls and they had these printouts," Khan said.
"So I looked at them, I thought maybe it's a form you're supposed to [sign] ... and you could see everything inside. And then I've autographed them for them.
The scanners are in use at Heathrow and Manchester airports. British transport secretary Lord Adonis told the BBC last week the new system was the same as a "pat-down" search. "A pat-down search is a pretty intrusive procedure but people accept that because it is important that we do detect whether there are weapons or other powerful substances that people may be carrying," he said.
"A body scanner is in the same category -- it is very important to stress that the images which are captured by body scanners are immediately deleted. Staff are, of course, properly trained and supervised who manage the body scanners."

Karan Johar battles perceptions surrounding MNIK
Bollywood has moved on, better films are coming in; audiences’ expectations have soared higher while filmmakers (the ones who are willing to change with the times) have matured as well. The ones who were only making a particular kind of cinema have started experimenting with diverse subjects. Quite a few actors too have realised that change is the name of the game and being routine is passé. Commercial cinema has started seeing a new definition for itself while the success of 3 Idiots has proved that sky is the limit if the film carries a great entertainment value even if there is this deep rooted message hidden somewhere deeper down.
This is exactly what one looks forward to from My Name Is Khan as well where Karan Johar, Shah Rukh, Kajol and Co. have aspired to tell a story which is new and fresh, boasts of a certain responsibility quotient to it and still has been designed as a universal entertainer which would appeal to a global audience, a market that it promises to explore in weeks to come. No wonder, the man behind it all, Karan Johar, chooses to call My Name Is Khan as a love story at heart which comes with good enough entertainment value in spite of an issue being addressed at the gut level.
MNIK a film about terrorism? Wrong perception
Karan Johar
“There is this entire perception which is making the rounds that My Name Is Khan is a serious film about a serious issue with terrorism as it’s back drop. The fact is, this is an entirely wrong perception”, Karan sets the record straight once for and all. If he is really tired of defending his yet to be released dozen times a day, he is not quite making an attempt to hide it. The reason behind his tiring state is understandable. After all the film is barely a couple of days away from the release and the wrong perception may just be sounding a little too threatening, especially so when MNIK has quite a lot going in it’s favour at the moment.
“Yes, there is an issue which is being addressed but at the end of the day this film is an emotional love story. It is about a man (Rizwan Khan, played by Shah Rukh Khan) who embarks on a mission for love. The story is about what prompts him to get going on this mission and where does he eventually go. But there is nothing about terrorism in MNIK; you don’t see any terrorist in the film.”
This immediately sets MNIK apart from Karan Johar’s last production Kurbaan (directed by Rensil D’Souza) which had terrorism as it’s driving force with it’s lead protagonist (Saif Ali Khan) playing the role of a Pakistani terrorist. Though some rumour mongers had a field day initiating idle conversations around the similarities between the two films, Karan Johar instead chose to shrug it all away.
Karan Johar
The name is Khan. Rizwan Khan.
“The film is about Rizwan who doesn’t know that in this personal mission of his, he is making such a huge difference for the rest of the world. The power of any initiative lies in doing something with all the heart and compassion without being marred by any ill thoughts or corrupted outlook. Rizwan is one such individual who does so much but without an understanding that his act would have such wider impact. He is so genuine and true and this is why he does everything with so much of heart and compassion. There are very few people who feel pure love and act as per that. This is why the story is possible when seen from Rizwan’s point of view because his mind is completely honest while his heart is truly uncluttered and pure”, Karan goes on to describe the element of love which are so prevalent when it comes to Rizwan Khan.
One wonders where does all of this leave Kajol? While Shah Rukh Khan seems to be enjoying an author backed role here, does Kajol get her moments of glory in the film as well? After all, the journey of MNIK is being touted to be that of a man whose wife leaves him behind for certain reasons.
“Again, one more wrong perception”, sighs Karan, “Who says that Mandira (the character played by Kajol in the film) leaves Rizwan? Though I certainly don’t wish to reveal anything around the storyline, let me set the record straight that it is Rizwan who is forced to leave Mandira because she says something to him which drives him to take such a drastic step. Beyond this, I don’t wish to comment on anything else. Why don’t you watch the film and get answers to the all perceptions that are being fed to you?”
Shah Rukh and Kajol – ‘Janam Janam Ka Saath’?
Karan Johar
One wonders though how audience would be reacting to this rather different chemistry between Shah Rukh Khan and Kajol who are returning on screen more than 8 years after Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham? After all, together they have worked in Dilwale Dulhaniya Le Jayenge, Kuch Kuch Hota Hai, Karan Arjun and Baazigar – all of which have been mega hits that continue to find huge patronage amongst audience, courtesy their satellite re-runs. Since in each of these films, Shah Rukh and Kajol are shown to be sharing the vows of ‘janam janam ka saath’ with promise of togetherness being a single most stand out factor, won’t audience be shocked with some diverse character portrayals that they have in the film?
Karan hardly pauses for a moment before answering this. “Let’s admit it, everyone is required to evolve and grow over a period of time. I have grown, audience has shown over a period of time that how evolved they have become and our actors too have taken a huge leap further”, Karan does a quick reality check here.
One wonders though that when a film has Shah Rukh as a central protagonist with the promos also giving an indication that it revolves primarily around his character, how does Kajol make her presence felt and justify her inclusion? Assures Karan, “Kajol has a very strong role in My Name Is Khan and nowhere would you feel that she has been left behind. She is a big part of the journey that Khan takes. After all at its heart, the film is a love story of Rizwan and Mandira.”

Sena backtracks, attacks theatres screening 'MNIK'
Buzz up!
Officials said that the Sena activists damaged the booking windows of Mehul Theatre in Mulund and shouted slogans outside Shreyas Theatre in Ghatkopar.
Kanjurmarg, Bandra, Khar and other parts of the city also witnessed protests from the Sena in the form of slogans and violent protests, amidst the police assurance to film director Karan Johan to prevent violence during the release of the film.
12 Sena activists from Mulund and 24 others were arrested in connection with the protests.
Earlier on Tuesday, Feb 9, director Karan Johar met the Police Commissioner D. Shivanandhan seeking police security for the movie's screening.
Citing stern action against trouble-makers, Joint Police Commissioner (Law and Order) Himanshu Roy said that protestors of the Shah Rukh-Kajol starrer will be dealt with a firm hand.
"We shall also frisk and search suspicious persons coming to view the movie to prevent any untoward incidents inside the cinema auditorium," Roy said.
The attacks were part of the ongoing Sena-Shah Rukh conflict, which began after the bollywood star spoke out against the exclusion of the Pakistan players from the IPL.

MNIK is entertainment: SRK
It has some religion, a bit of politics and it's set in the backdrop of a world shaking event, but for Bollywood superstar Shah Rukh Khan his latest venture is not so much about Islam post-9/11 as it is entertainment.
"The film is mainly entertainment," Shah Rukh said in a lengthy interview with IANS over the phone from New York on a trip last week to promote his new film, "My Name Is Khan" (MNIK), releasing in the US Feb 12. "If some issue is taken back home, I always tell people if they can take back a little more than an empty pack of popcorn, that's interesting...that's an added advantage to an entertaining film."
Shah Rukh, who plays a Muslim Indian with Asperger's syndrome living in the US, finding his marriage to a Hindu single mother (played by Kajol) crumbling post-9/11, wouldn't agree that it's the Islam angle that is grabbing the most attention in the US. "A film normally deals with lots of issues, comedy, or it's a tragedy or a serious film or a dramatic love story like '...Khan' is meant to be," he said. "If one starts talking or deciding on issues before a whole film is seen, it's kinda not right to do, specially as a filmmaker. Normally, a film is more than the sum of its parts. It's not like it's a love story, it's got a Karan Johar touch to social cinema, it has an angle of religion, it also has a part of politics, it has a world-shaking incident as a backdrop, it also has a lot of sweet songs. It combines all that. To me as a filmmaker, or part of a film, any aspect of the film can only be decided once one has seen the whole film. But there's no denying that there is an aspect of religion in the film."
Nor would Shah Rukh look at this and other recent Bollywood films about the fate of Indian Muslims in the US post-9/11 as an effort to redress any negative images people may have formed about Islam over the last nine years. "Films normally are for entertainment. One doesn't really make a conscious decision to make a statement with it. Within entertainment, if a statement gets made, it's really nice for a filmmaker. You know, maybe '3 Idiots' talks about education, but it's an entertaining film. Similarly 'Chak De! India' talks about patriotism, but it's a sports film. You can have issues related in a film, but when filmmakers of commercial proportions like Karan, myself and Kajol and all get together, it's not to highlight an issue because it's too expensive as a commercial venture to make a film about an issue and not entertain."
To Shah Rukh, "the most interesting part of the fact as an actor is that I'm playing a character who's got Asperger's. It's also not in any which way to show it in a light which is not nice...but for an actor that's a great thing to do, you know, to play a (person with a) disorder like this which very few people know about. Hopefully, I'll be able to convince people about it when they see (the film). I don't think at least commercial filmmakers from India really make a big-time film which is localised or even localised by an international issue," he said.
"Commercial we will only know once the film releases," said Shah Rukh when asked if MNIK isn't one of Karan Johar's least commercial offerings so far. "...Yes, the only thing it has amiss is big set dance pieces, but we just felt with the disorder we were dealing with, it would look very unrealistic for the character Rizwan Khan to indulge in dancing of the order of we normally see in a Hindi film of Karan's, or you might have seen earlier. Except for that, I think the venture is extremely commercial," he said. "In the last five years, there's a whole paradigm shift as to what people accept as a commercial film," Shah Rukh said describing it as "Karan's evolution from making and keeping up with the trends of new commercial cinema in India and elsewhere".
On professional challenges he faced during its filming, Shah Rukh said it was a "very difficult" character to play. "If I was to just put it simply, it's very seldom that I've really gone ahead and played a character which exists in real life. And whenever you're dealing with a disorder or a near...atypical situation, the first thought is that the sort of parameters you have to set that in no which way you are derogatory or deriding the disorder. You have to make the protagonist very proud of what it is. The second part is you have to come as close to reality in depicting that characterisation and so one had to study a lot and one does get worried..."
But a couple of people affected with the same disorder who were shown the film had told them "...it's a great portrayal, it's very close to someone with this kind of disorder". "Of course, having said that, I have taken a few cinematic liberties with it, because I've used three or four traits which may not exist simultaneously in one person and tried to create one character who has Asperger's, called Rizwan Khan."
