PRP on the defensive over Vaishnavi killer

Praja Rajyam Party president Chiranjeevi had to face embarrassing situation on Tuesday when he came to know that Venkat Rao, one of the accused in sensational Vaishnavi murder case in Vijayawada, was a prominent PRP leader.

Party leaders in Vijayawada brought to Chiranjeevi’s notice that Venkat Rao tried for the PRP ticket in Vijayawada in the last assembly elections, but could not get it due to caste equations. Recently, Chiranjeevi approved his name for the post of Vijaywada Urban Committtee of the PRP.

When media persons questioned him about this, Chiranjeevi had to go on the defensive. “If Venkat Rao is found guilty in the Vaishnavi murder case, we will not spare him. Such killers would have no place in the party. He should be given the stringent punishment,” he said. The PRP leaders in Krishna district said Venkat Rao had not been very active in the party activities in the recent times. “He will be expelled from the primary membership of the party,” they said.
