The total number of swine flu cases has gone up to 72 in the State. Out of the four, a woman software professional from Pune working here has tested flu positive.
The health authorities sought to calm the school management by reiterating that they need not panic because the swine flu has not started to spread in a big way like it has in Pune. A few precautionary steps have to be taken by the school managements to avoid any swine flu outbreak.
The district health authorities in coordination with District Education Officer (DEO) will be chalking out a sensitisation programme on swine flu for schools in the twin cities. On Friday, reports suggested that the management of Jubilee Hills Public School went into a panic mode after a few of its students developed flu like symptoms.
The Chest Hospital doctors however allayed fears of spread of swine flu on a large scale in schools and will soon take up a series of sensitisation programmes for schools.
Meanwhile, general public, who did not travel abroad or visit Pune, continued to throng Chest Hospital. Most of them were given medical advice as outpatients and were sent home.
The training programme to start Rapid Response Teams in the districts, comprising a microbiologist, clinician and a public health expert, will start from August 20. The rapid response teams will be deployed immediately in case the swine flu breaks out in epidemic proportions, authorities said.
Out of the four flu positive patients, two returned to city after a visit to Thailand while another 34-year-old techie from San Francisco tested positive.
