Maharashtra government on Tuesday withdrew all cases against Telugu Desam Party (TDP) president N Chandrababu Naidu. Nanded District Collector Ajay Ghulane filed an affidavit in a local court on Tuesday afternoon withdrawing all cases against Naidu and his 65 supporters.
Naidu was released in the evening but remained defiant saying he would again visit the Babhali dam site. He also accused Maharashtra Police of arresting him illegally.
""I don't know why they have dropped the cases. We were in Andhra, the police especially the SP and IG told us that we are going to shift Babhali and that's how they took us to Maharashtra border. Then they took us to IGI campus, they kept us there for 24 hours. Finally, they produced us before the magistrate on certain cases. Magistrate insisted us to take bail on personal bond. We told him that we didn't commit any crime. We were in Andhra, there is no jurisdiction for Maharashtra Police to take us. They treated us very badly," said Naidu.

"Again, we are going to fight, we are not going anywhere. They have beaten all my MPs, MLAs," added Naidu.
TDP Spokesperson MV Mysoora Reddy claimed that false cases were registered against Naidu and other TDP activists.
"We have been stating this since the beginning that false cases were registered against our leader and the delegation. But our agitation will continue. Our demand is still the same. We are not violating any law or taking law in our own hands," said Reddy.
Earlier in the day Naidu and his supporters were forcibly shifted from Dharmabad in Nanded district to the Aurangabad Central Jail. Naidu had on Monday rejected a magistrate's suggestion to seek bail and return to Andhra Pradesh.
Naidu and TDP members were forcibly put into buses and driven away amid tight security as police lathicharged a crowd protesting their presence in Dharmabad.
The Maharashtra town has been tense after Naidu and his supporters, including TDP MPs and legislators, were arrested on Friday when they tried to proceed towards the Babhali dam, which they allege Maharashtra is building illegally and would deprive Andhra Pradesh of its due share of Godavari waters.
The leaders, including Naidu, had entered Dharmabad town to protest against the Babhali dam on the Godavari River on Friday.

T-stir may hit Inter calender
Many educationists want the Intermediate public exams, slated to begin on March 3, to be postponed after the government declared a two-week holiday for junior colleges and universities in the Telangana region.
Not even half of the syllabus has been covered yet in 900 government junior colleges.
However, the Board of Intermediate Education (BIE) is averse to postponing the exams as it will affect the schedule of other exams including the Eamcet.
“A major portion of the syllabus in government junior colleges is yet to be completed. We are looking at all options before taking a final decision on postponing the exams,” said a senior official of BIE.
“If the Inter exams are postponed, it will lead to a delay in the announcement of results. This will impact the conduct of advanced supplementary exams. With the 25 per cent weightage of Intermediate marks in Eamcet being in force, it will impact the conduct of Eamcet as well. All this will hamper the admissions process for higher education courses and affect the academic year,” he added.
The decision has upset the academic calendar of many universities too. Semester examinations have been postponed twice this week.
With the 15-day christmas vacation beginning soon after, the varsities said this will affect the timing of final examinations.
JNTU-Hyderabad officials said they will have to reschedule the academic calendar to ensure the that this loss doesn’t affect the final examinations.
The government lecturers have termed the decision to declare holidays in junior colleges as ‘hasty’, saying that there is no justification in announcing holidays for junior colleges on the pretext of a “volatile situation” in universities.
The lecturers are worried about the ‘practical exams’ that would begin from February 3.
Many colleges lack laboratories and the officials were arranging for temporary laboratories and conducting practicals. These holidays have come as a setback for them.

Students angry as state shuts T-colleges
Unnerved by the snowballing students’ agitation for a separate Telangana, the state government has ordered that all educational institutions except schools in Telangana districts be closed for 15 days from Friday.
Government, aided and private junior, polytechnic, degree and university colleges besides MBA, MCA, pharmacy, law and engineering colleges will remain closed till December 18. The higher education department issued orders in this regard following directions from the Chief Minister, Mr K. Rosaiah.
Students have been in the forefront of the agitation for separate Telangana in all the 10 districts with university campuses in state capital and Warangal being the nerve centres. “All the schools in government and private sector will function normally,” said the director of school education, Ms Poonam Malakondaiah. However, the government move only raised tempers in Osmania University campus.
Close on the heels of the government orders, the OU authorities issued a statement announcing the closure of hostels on the campus and constituent colleges and asking the boarders to vacate them. However, the Telangana Students Joint Action Committee opposed the move to close hostels and messes.
Significantly, faculty members of the university also came out in support of students and tried to persuade the vice-chancellor to withdraw the decision. They offered to provide food to the students if the government was keen on closing hostels.
Several ministers from Telangana also opposed the closure of hostels stating that it would further escalate tensions when the home minister, Ms P. Sabita Indra Reddy, met them to discuss the issue. The home minister also had reservations about announcing holidays. On the instructions of the Chief Minister, K. Rosaiah, the home minister convened a meeting of ministers from Telangana.
However, not all ministers attended it and those who did expressed doubts as to whether the students would allow the hostels to be closed. All the universities in the city have postponed their examinations, cancelled their seminars, conferences and classes scheduled for the next 15 days. The OU has once again postponed the semester examinations and will announce a fresh schedule in a few days.
Meanwhile, the Joint Action Committee of students union have decided to carry out an Assembly Chalo on December 10, if the government fails to move a resolution on Telangana and urge the Centre to initiate the the process of formation a separate Telangana state.

Lok Satta asks KCR to drop plan for fast
Lok Satta Party president Jayaprakash Narayan has urged Telangana Rashtra Samiti president K.Chandrasekhar Rao to drop his plan for fast unto death seeking Telangana State.
Responding to TRS Legislature leader E. Rajender’s letter seeking Lok Satta’s support for the programme, Dr. Narayan in his reply said that Lok Satta firmly believed that such fast has no place in a constitutional democracy. He said TRS was entitled to launch any movement to accomplish the political goals they believed in, as long as it was democratic, peaceful and without disrupting harmony among people.
He also said separate Telangana State would not solve region’s problems and real solution would be in providing equal growth and livelihood opportunities to all and direct empowerment of people with devolution of resources and responsibilities. He said there was no free zone issue at all as the recent Supreme Court verdict was in accordance with Presidential Order of 1975 and undoing the latter would go against public interest.

Y.S.Jagan in dilemma over campaign
To canvas or not in the upcoming GHMC polls. This is the big question that is weighing down Mr. Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy, the Kadapa MP, at the moment.
According to inner circles, Mr Reddy is yet to decide on the issue and has been discussing it with his mentor Dr K.V.P. Ramachandra Rao.
When newsmen asked Mr Verappa Moily, incharge of Congress affairs in AP, about a formal invite to Mr Reddy to campaign, he evaded a straight answer and said it is the responsibility of every MP to campaign. Similarly, neither the Chief Minister, Mr Rosaiah, nor the PCC chief, Mr D. Srinivas, has so far asked Mr Reddy to campaign.
Mr Reddy’s camp, however, is considering the pros and cons of getting involved in the campaign. If he doesn’t campaign and the Congress wins in the polls, party
leaders will say he is no more interested in taking up his father’s agenda of serving the party. They will also claim that the party can win elections without him. This will damage the prospects of Mr Reddy, the camp felt.
In the worst case, if the Congress fares badly, Mr Reddy will be blamed for not campaigning and for preventing a Praja Rajyam-Congress tie-up.
In case he decides to campaign, credit for the victory will not go to Mr Reddy. Three out of seven Congress MLAs from the city Marri Sasidhara Reddy (Sanatnagar), Dr P. Shanker Rao (Secunderabad Cantonment) and Mr P. Vishnu Vardhana Reddy (Jubilee Hills) have decided not to invite Mr Reddy, it is not clear how other MLAs will react.

Wedding fervour In Hyderabad
After the party wrapped up around midnight, many youngsters zoomed away to Spoil to continue partying. Unfortunately, they entered the place at the same time the cops did, so they had to go home.

7 lose sight at Nellore eye camp, 15 infected
Days after undergoing free cataract surgery at a private hospital in Nellore district, 15 people were rushed on Sunday to Sankara Nethralaya hospital in Chennai with complaints of vision loss.
The free cataract operations were conducted on 30 people from Nellore town and surrounding villages last Monday at the Global Eye Foundation.
The eyeballs of four patients had to be removed by doctors at the Chennai hospital to prevent infection spreading to other parts. Three patients returned to Nellore after doctors in Chennai told them that their eyeballs would have to be removed. One of them, Shankar, 65, said that they were taken to different hospitals in Chennai and they panicked when they came to know about the proposal to remove their operated eye. “It is our bad fate and we are terribly worried over our future,” Mr Shankar said.

The condition of seven others is said to be critical. Ms Kranthi of Sramikanagar in Nellore town said that her mother and aunt were among the victims. One of her aunt’s eyes was removed in Chennai. “She is totally blind now since her only functioning eye has been extracted. We would have avoided the operation if we had any idea about the danger,” Kranthi said between sobs.
Locals said that the Global Eye Foundation medical team conducted the free medical camp in memory of Dr Y.S. Rajasekhar Reddy where they identified the persons for cataract surgery.
Mr Rafi of Gangapatnam village, whose father-in-law, Mr Shaik Khader Basha is one of the victims, said that the hospital staff told him there was no need for attendants when he and his wife, Jameela accompanied his father-in-law to the hospital in Nellore on Monday. “He returned home on his own on Tuesday morning and started complaining about severe pain in the eye by afternoon. The operated eye swelled like an egg within no time and we rushed him again to the Global Eye Foundation,” Mr Rafi said.
He said his father-in-law was taken along with other patients to Chennai. “Doctors at the Agarwal Eye Hospital in Chennai refused treatment after examining them and we were taken to Egmore Eye Hospital where the patients from Nellore were forced to sleep under trees. Global Eye Foundation staff shifted them to Sankara Nethralaya after we raised a hue and cry the next day,“ Mr afi said, narrating his harrowing tale.
He said that he noticed nine patients and he is not aware of the whereabouts of the others. Dr Sai Murali, chief of the Global Eye Foundation, said that they noticed serious infection in one of the patients who had undergone surgery on October 19 when he came to the hospital the next day complaining about irritation in the eye. “We took pains to locate other patients and rushed them to Chennai,” he said.
He claimed that they have conducted 40,000 free cataract surgeries under the national programme for control of blindness in the past six years and have never had any problem. He said that they are taking total care of all the patients at hospital cost and closely monitoring the condition of the remaining 15 patients.
A senior ophthalmologist said on condition of anonymity that infected medicines or instruments could be the cause of the infections. A spokesperson for Sankara Nethralaya, Mr Sivakumar, told this newspaper, “We performed emergency surgeries on four patients as the infected eye had to be removed to prevent spread of infection. Seven others are under observation, and receiving treatment. Their condition is being evaluated and surgery will be performed if needed.” The cause of the infection is yet to be ascertained; the hospital was concentrating on saving patients’ vision, he added.

Three Indian students thrashed robbed in Australia
Melbourne In the backdrop of racial attacks against Indians, three students of the community were bashed and robbed when they were returning home at night.
The latest incident took place on Thursday night at around 10.30 pm (local time) when the victims were on their way home from Sunshine station along Anderson road, The Age reported.
Three to four persons approached the victims from behind near Derby Road Reserve demanding their wallets and cellphones, the police said in the report.
One of the victims a 26-year-old student from Sunshine handed over his wallets and mobile phone and escaped from the spot, the report said.
While the other two students aged 24 and 27 were thrashed by the offenders who also stole their cellphones.
The 24-year-old man received head injuries in the attack and the 27-year-old man suffered soreness to his upper body, the report said.

TD MLA destroys foundation stones, held
The Gudivada Town police on Wednesday arrested the local MLA and the TD leader, Mr Kodali Venkateswara Rao alias Nani, municipal chairman, Mr Lanka Dasari Prasada Rao, vice-chairman, Mr S. Chandrasekhar, TD town president, Mr Y. Srinivas, two councillors Mr Surapaneni Ajay and Ms B. Kotamma and five others for destruction of three foundation stones laid for construction of roads and other works in Gudivada town. The TD leaders were later released on bail. The TD functionaries staged a dharna in front of the One Town police station protesting against the arrest of MLA and other leaders and demanded that they be released immediately.
The minister for animal husbandry, Mr K. Parthasarathy, had laid the foundation stones on October 12 for developmental works in the town.
The TD leaders alleged the civic officials violated protocol and did not invite them to the programme.

The municipal officials replied that the Congress leaders laid the foundation stone and the civic authorities were not involved in the event.
The former minister and Congress leader, Mr Kathari Eswara Kumar, lodged a complaint with the police that the MLA and others vandalised the foundation stones and damaged public property. The MLA and others obtained bail after filing a petition.
