Director Anurag Kashyap shoots at Payal Rohatgi

Bollywood Director Anurag Kashyap has shot down casting couch allegations levelled against his friend, director Dibakar Banerjee, by actress Payal Rohatgi, saying a director of his generation won't compromise on the integrity of his films.

Payal claims that Banerjee had asked her to show her bare body and when she refused to oblige him, she didn't get the role though she did well in the audition for his much-anticipated project Shanghai.

"I stand by Dibakar. Among this generation of directors, not a single director will cast anyone just because he gets to have sex with that person. None of them would ever compromise with the integrity of their films," Kashyap told.

The director, who had himself launched two new faces - Mahie Gill and Kalki Koechlin - with his much acclaimed movie Dev D, said none of the directors meet the actors until the shooting date.

"I don't think directors like Dibakar, Anurag (Basu) or Imtiyaz (Ali) would give a role to anyone who was sleeping with them. We all have casting directors. In the first place, most of the directors have stopped meeting actors."

"We audition for around three to four months for a character. Anyone who wants to bypass the audition gets automatically rejected," said Kashyap, who is now in a realtionship with Kalki.

Talking about his films, he said he has three releases in the next five months.

"Michael and Shaitan are all releasing in the next five to six months. The Girl in Yellow Boots would be releasing in the next two months," he said.

Kashyap has just finished shooting Gangs of Wasseypur and will start editing it after taking a long break.

"I have just finished shooting. It was a long marathon shooting of four months. I am taking a break now. Once I come back, I will edit the film. I had fun shooting the movie," said the director.

Salman's new trouble in hit-n-run mishap Case

The prosecution has told a local court saying Bollywood actor Salman Khan should be tried for more serious charge of 'culpable homicide not amounting to murder' in a hit-and-run case in 2002.

The Bombay High Court at that time had dropped the charge of culpable homicide not amounting to murder against Khan and directed to proceed against him under the less serious charge of 'death due to negligence'.

Salman Khan's advocate Dipesh Mehta confirmed the development but said the prosecution has the privilege to move such an application at any stage of the trial.

The trial has been going on for the past six years and the prosecution has already examined 11 witnesses in the case, he said.

Salman Khan's Toyota Land Cruiser had rammed into a bakery in suburban Bandra killing one and injuring four persons who were sleeping on a pavement on September 28, 2002.

Khan was booked on the charge of culpable homicide not amounting to murder. However he had maintained that it was merely an accident and he did not have any intention to kill anyone.

The Bombay High Court had held that Section 304 part II of the Indian Penal Code (culpable homicide not amounting to murder) was not applicable in the case and the actor be tried under 304 A of IPC (rash and negligent driving) and other relevant sections.

Nandamuri Lakshmi Parvathi, widow of former Chief Minister N T Rama Rao, would soon become shelterless with the state high court asking her to vacate her present residence at Banjara Hills, as it actually belongs to NTR’s younger daughter Uma Maheshwari.

LP has been waging a legal battle against her step children about her house. It was in this house that NTR had died in 1996 and since then, she has been staying in this house.

In fact, even before becoming the chief minister, NTR had written the house in the name of Uma Maheshwari and he had no house of his own. Since Uma Maheshwari stays abroad, she asked NTR to stay in the Banjara Hills House as long as he could.

After NTR’s death, Lakshmi Parvathi claimed rights over the House. Though Uma Maheshwari had not forcibly evicted her step mother from the House because of the respect for her father, the other children of NTR, including Harikrishna and Balakrishna, had gone to court asking Lakshmi Parvathi to vacate the House.

The high court, upholding the earlier judgement of city civil court, observed that the NTR family had never accepted Lakshmi Parvathi as one among them and fought with her about all the possessions that NTR left behind, including the party he founded.

The court has given two months time for LP to vacate the House. Now, the question is where she would go.

A media friend has advised that now that she has joined the camp of YSR Congress Party president Y S Jaganmohan Reddy, it would be better she seek his help to provide her some shelter. After all, a person who can buy a luxury car to actress-turned-politician Roja, may not find it difficult to buy a flat for Lakshmi Parvathi, who has stood solidly behind him all these days!

A lot of people I know have told me in person that I’m glamorous but I don’t know about sexy. Actually, I find it very embarrassing but if people are saying this, I’m fine.

When we were doing Tashan, Adi and I had taken up a challenge that I would lose weight and wear a bikini. But there is no need for a bikini in the kind of films that I’m doing this year. I also don’t think I have the patience to do so again.

Kangana Ranaut's Starry (Nakres)Tantrums!

Kangna Ranaut is definitely rubbing people the wrong way. The actress and her PR executive have been repeatedly saying that a group of people are out to slander the curly-haired beauty.

Kangana's Plea
Kangna even messaged from Bangkok to say, "Please don't pay heed to all the nasty stories about me that are currently doing the rounds. All these stories are baseless."

Kangna's PR executive went one step further and threatened the media with legal action. But hello, shouldn't Kangna first check her own behaviour? According to industry sources, it is Kangna who apparently broke the pact with a top leading man by going around saying that the two of them had terrific chemistry on and off screen. Naturally, the hero panicked and he has now let loose a volley of abuse against Bollywood's wild-child.

One story doing the rounds is that she has reportedly misbehaved with a member of her staff. There's also talk about her behavior on the sets of the TV show Jhalak Dikhhla Jaa. "She behaved strangely throughout. She slept backstage for a while and later refused to give bytes to the waiting media," says an eye-witness.

TOI would definitely like to give Kangna the benefit of doubt. As for her public relations manager one thing stands clear... instead of trying to intimidate the fourth estate, she should advise the actress to keep a check on her public conduct.

Refusal to wear a bikini
And if it's her attitude that's not enough, the actress, known for her insatiable ability to sport the quirkiest and the most fashionable outfits in Bollywood, recently shied away from wearing a bikini. This turned out to be a volte-face because the actress had agreed to wear it initially and was in fact quite excited about it. But last week, while shooting for David Dhawan’s Rascals, Kangna suddenly threw a big fit on one of the beaches in Thailand, when Dhawan asked her to wear her bikini. Even the lead actors Sanjay Dutt and Ajay Devgn could not convince her.

In two minds?
The incident was doubly shocking because Kangna had apparently shopped for the two-piece herself. And given her past inclination to design and make her own clothes, this only reaffirmed the fact that she was confident about wearing the bikini. Says a source, “Kangna had even told her friends that she was very excited to wear a twopiece and was looking forward to the day. Nobody could understand what prompted her to change her mind.”

The shooting was stalled for nearly four hours after Kangna threw a fit. The source adds, “Usko bahut samjhaya lekin who nahin mani. One could understand if Dhawan had not informed her about the bikini earlier, she would have been fair then. But that was so not the case.”

Why did the otherwise self-assured actress develop cold feet all of a sudden? The buzz is that on learning that the scene had Sanjay and Ajay ogling at her bikini, Kangna decided not to wear it. In the scene, she is expected to come out of the ocean water, much like James Bond’s girlfriend, while Sanju and Ajay ogle at her itsy-witsy get-up.

The real reason
Another source says, “Kangna felt that she had put on a lot of weight during the making of Tanu Weds Manu.” Naturally, Kangna did not want the bikini to accentuate the flab instead of the fab body.

Bygones would have been bygones if Kangna hadn’t flown back to Mumbai days after this incident happened. Rumour has it that David Dhawan was unhappy when Kangna returned to Mumbai for the promotions of Tanu Weds Manu, bang in the middle of her Rascals shooting schedule. “He had combinations dates for Sanjay, Ajay and her, so he expected her to be there in Thailand with the guys. But she was adamant to go. So Dhawan had to speed up the shoots a bit.”

Kangna returned to Thailand on Thursday night. Adds the source, “The on-going schedule will get over by the end of this week. Things have been sorted out now and she may end up wearing the bikini eventually.”David Dhawan and Kangna Ranaut remained unavailable for comment. But rumour has it that Kangna’s physical trainer, who has put her on a crash diet, is traveling with her now. No more excuses, Kangna.

Madhavan On cloud nine

R Madhavan is basking in the success of Tanu Weds Manu. He knows he has hit the jackpot once again with this one. Amid congratulatory calls and a hundred interviews, we catch up with the actor who exudes happiness. “I am very happy,” says Madhavan, beaming on the phone line. “I choose my films with care. I do just one film at a time and put my heart and soul into it. So I am delighted beyond bounds!”


Tanu Weds Manu, directed by debutant Aanand Rai, is about an NRI doctor Manoj Sharma aka Manu who wishes to marry an Indian girl. Unlike what is expected of a typical NRI, Manu is a simple boy who would like to marry a quiet and sensible girl. He comes to Kanpur to ‘see' Tanuja Trivedi aka Tanu under family pressure. Tanu is a rebel who lives by her own rules and hates the thought of an arranged marriage. And the twain meet! When told that playing Manu must have not come naturally for a person known for his pranks, Madhavan chuckles, “Yes I am an absolute prankster. I have the good-boy looks and hardly seem to be the sort who would make mischief but it's a different story for anyone who has met me! So Manu was really the toughest character I have played. He was just too noble for me.”


Reports had suggested that so impressed was Madhavan with the film's concept that he had agreed to reduce his actor's fee for the job. Madhavan denies this. “I have taken my full amount. We actors will bend over backwards to do a role if we are kicked about it. This film depended on Tanu and Manu and I was dead sure about the content. I put in a lot of myself in every film of mine but I don't see why I should short sell myself for any,” comes the candid answer.


Ask him which of the reports is true — that he recommended Kangna Ranaut for the role of Tanu or that the two shared cold vibes on the sets — and he quickly points out that he did recommend Kangna for the role. “I had worked with Kangna once before and knew her enough to realise that she fitted Tanu to a T. But all such stories like Salman Khan was part of our film and his role was edited out, that it was earlier titled Manu Weds Tanu and that Kangna and I had problems were merely hyperventilated PR activity.” Does he endorse such ‘hyperventilated PR activity'? “I will do anything to get my film space. But I can't keep endorsing untruths,” says the actor defiantly.

Two years after the release of 3 Idiots, does the actor find it difficult to match the scale of that film? “Of course, it is difficult though not impossible. Not just for me but for any of us involved with that project, it will be difficult to match it singly. 3 Idiots was a joint effort of Raju (Hirani), Aamir, Kareena, Boman, Omi, Sharman and me,” he says. But the South superstar is happy with the way his Bollywood career is poised. “I have done some eight or nine films.
Everybody remembers me in each of them and I am still getting the remuneration I ask for. I have chosen quality over quantity and it has been just wonderful,” he says.
